Are you looking for an inflatable paddle board for the summer to sail at sea or in lakes?

The inflatable paddle board really has a lot of advantages and it really allows you to have fun with the minimum of bulk, with good performance and with excellent solidity and durability if and only if you choose the right paddle for you.

In this article, we will compare different inflatable paddle boards for beginners, for running, surfing or hiking. We will give you a review of each paddle and you can compare at a glance to make the right choice.

Take five minutes to study the best inflatable paddle board on the market and choose your next purchase.

Our comparison of inflatable paddle boards on the market

To start, we recommend stable paddles with a little less length to increase manoeuvrability. Stability is a function of the board width. A wide board will be more stable. A beginner’s paddle will be very oriented for the ride.

What will make the difference between the brands is the construction:

  • A paddle board that is more reinforced and therefore more durable over time will be a little heavier because it will have a few more layers of PVC.
  • A very light paddle board will be less solid. There is a difference of 1kg.

The more reinforced the paddle, the stiffer and more stable it will be. So it’s important to look at the number of layers that can help you differentiate the builds.

1. The Top 5 Cheap Paddle Boards

A cheap paddle board is an easy-to-use paddle board at a very reasonable price. It will allow you to discover the paddle activity and to make your first steps.

Generally, a cheap paddle board is a cheap paddle board. To make it more economical, we reduce the number of PVC layers, we simplify the design and construction in order to have a very attractive price. Depending on the brand, the strength and stability can be greatly different.

We have made a ranking that will allow you to better understand all the models and make your choice. Our main criteria were: the construction, the quality of the materials, the width of the board for maximum stability and the price.

2. The top 5 paddle boards to start with

To start, we recommend stable paddles with a little less length to increase manoeuvrability. Stability is a function of the board width. A wide board will be more stable. A beginner’s paddle will be very oriented for the family ride. What will make the difference between the different brands is the construction and quality of the pvc and glues used as well as the general shape of the inflatable paddle that will determine the glide. A more reinforced paddle and therefore more durable over time will be a little heavier because it will have a few more layers of PVC. A very light paddle board will be less solid. There is a difference of 1kg between the two options. The more reinforced the paddle, the stiffer and more stable it will be. So it’s important to look at the number of layers that can help you differentiate the builds. Finally, some shapes will allow you to glide better and others will be more stable. Choose according to your needs and abilities.

3. The Top 4 Racing Paddles

A paddle boardis necessarily long and narrow. The longer and narrower it is, the more efficient it will be, with the trade-off of being less stable. So you have to master the paddle to fully use this type of stand up paddle.

A racing paddle board oscillates between 12’6 and 14 feet. The width will be less than 28′ wide. Again, one of the keys to performance is stiffness, which is why many competitors opt for rigid boards. But more and more competitors, for reasons of simplicity, are using inflatable paddles.

We deliberately didn’t give any scores, because the race race is very difficult to evaluate. There are so many factors that come into play that it’s hard to be objective. 80% of the performance is the competitor and the rower on the board. So cardio, physical strength, explosiveness are such important criteria that they can distort a test.

4. The Top 4 Surf Paddles

To surf on an inflatable paddle, you have to choose your paddle carefully.

The shape is different as well as its thickness:

  • The outline of the board should be fairly round, with a narrowing at the front and back of the board to facilitate turns and prevent the nose from planking into the wave.
  • A thickness of 5′ or 12 cm is recommended in order to be able to press better on the rails and thus turn the board more easily.
  • Similarly, the position and angle of the fins will influence the maneuverability of the paddle.
  • Finally, stiffness is a fundamental criterion to hope to make real turns. If the board is made too lightly, it will bounce off the water with a significant loss of energy.

So take the time to compare constructions, it’s fundamental. It’s better to invest in a good paddle board to get into the waves.

At SROKA, we offer two models that could potentially meet the needs of paddle surfing.

  1. There is the Wave 9’5 which will be mainly oriented towards paddle surfing but you can still walk around with it.
  2. And the second is the Malibu 10, which will be oriented 70% for walking and 30% for waves.

Our main criteria to evaluate these 4 paddles were: the shape of the board (which determines the maneuverability of the board), the width, thickness, length of the board, as well as the construction of the paddles and the materials used.

Which paddle board to choose for the ocean What regulations for paddle boarding How to deflate a paddle board

Going on a paddle hike is like going on an adventure with family or friends. Technically, all paddles allow you to do this but:

  • If you want to optimize the glide and your hike, we advise you to take boards with pointed noses to glide better.
  • If you’re looking for stability, opt for a paddle with a pointed nose and a wide enough back to maximize your stability.
  • If you’re looking to maximize glide, opt for a long, thin board with a thin tail, which will allow you to go faster. This type of board will provide excellent glide and allow you to cover more distance with less effort.

Our main criteria were the solidity, the general shape that will determine the glide and stability, the quality and quantity of the materials used, the price.

What is an inflatable paddle board?

Inflatable paddle boarding is a water sport that is practiced in the sea, lake or river. With the help of a paddle, the paddler standing on a board moves with the help of his paddle. Inflatable paddle boarding, stand up paddle boarding or SUP are all the same sport.

Paddle refers to the board accompanied by one or more fins, a pump, a leash and a carrying bag. Sometimes the paddles are sold separately (without paddle or leash) and sometimes it is sold with it. You can still find rigid boards but you can mostly find inflatable boards for reasons of simplicity, ease and solidity.

Who can practice stand up paddleboarding?

The inflatable paddle board is intended for a very wide and general public. From beginner to expert, you will be able to find what you are looking for. There are no age limits. This type of practice is particularly suitable for people who want to relax on the water and get away from the crowds for a bit.

There are different types of inflatable paddle boards. The shape, length, number of different fins to meet different needs. In the same way, construction is very important in the responsiveness, rigidity and stability of your paddle.

So before investing in a paddle board, analyze your desires and needs in order to choose the right model

Depending on your activity, the choice of paddle will be decisive to really adapt to what you want to do on the water. If you want to go hiking, running, paddle surfing or initiation, you will have to choose a different paddle. The paddle to do everything will be only a compromise and will do everything but nothing good. So think about where you are, your level, your desires, your size, the choice of paddle will be different.

We try to show you different products that can meet all your needs. Our main criteria were: the price of the paddle, the construction of the paddle, the width, the shape of the paddle, the accessories if there are any.

What is Wing Foil?

Wing Foil is the latest in board sports. This consists of manipulating a wing held with both hands (“wing”) with a hydrofoil mounted on a short SUP board. It is a practice halfway between Windfoil, Kite Foil and SUP Foil. In this article you will find all the information you may need to know How to start Wing Foiling?

The advantage of the WingFoil is that you can move with maximum freedom on a body of water using the energy of the wind and the swell. The wing provides manoeuvrability and Makes it easier for the foil to take off by the use of a constant force (wind). A distinction is therefore made between the practice of Downwind SUP Foil which uses only the energy of the swell. Thanks to the lightness and mobility of the kite, it is possible to alternate practices during the same session: going upwind by tacking at first and then going downwind at your back as in Downwind SUP Foil in a second step, for example. It is a very playful medium that makes the practitioner refocus on his sensations, without comparison to others.

The hydrofoil allows you to take off above the water and surf above the surface. Wing Foil is practiced on a short but wide and thick (voluminous) stand up paddle board to allow the practitioner to quickly stand up. Starting WingFoil allows you to feel new sensations, move easily and freely on any type of body of water with a relatively simple and easy to set up equipment. It can be practiced in any wind direction but will be more interesting in downwind with a crosswind. It is also possible to practice theWing-Foil in the waves and to use the lift of the kite to go up to sea and surf one after the other.

Why take up wingfoiling?

Wingfoil is a new and booming discipline that is attracting more and more water sports enthusiasts. Here are a few reasons why you should consider taking up wingfoiling:

  • Unique sensations: The wingfoil offers exceptional gliding and flying sensations. Flying over the water, you will feel a feeling of freedom and weightlessness, combined with the fluidity of navigation.
  • Accessibility: Wingfoil is easier to learn than other water sports such as kitesurfing or windsurfing. Thanks to the lift of the foil and the stability of the kite, novices can quickly get their bearings, progress and have fun from the first sessions.
  • Versatility: Wingfoil can be practiced in various wind and water conditions. Whether you’re cruising on a lake, at sea or even on wave spots, the wingfoil offers incredible versatility to explore new horizons and adapt to the water conditions of the day.
  • Fitness: Wingfoil engages the whole body, providing an excellent cardiovascular workout and strengthening the muscles of the body, especially the legs, arms and abdominals. It is a complete sport that will allow you to stay in shape while having fun on the water.

In short, taking up wingfoil will allow you to discover new sensations, enjoy nature, take on new challenges and experience moments of pure pleasure on the water. Whether you are a beginner or already a water sports enthusiast, wingfoil offers a unique experience that is worth exploring.

Who can wing foil?

Wingfoil is accessible to a wide audience, from novices to experienced riders. It is suitable for water sports enthusiasts looking for new sensations. Whether you’re a fan of surfing, kitesurfing or stand up paddleboarding, you can get into wingfoil. However, it is recommended to have some control of balance and a good physical condition to fully enjoy this discipline.

How to start Wingfoil?

If you want to get started with wingfoil, here are some steps to follow to get started:

  1. Take classes or find a mentor: It is recommended that you take lessons from a wingfoil school, a shop, or find an experienced mentor who can guide you and give you valuable advice. This will allow you to learn the technical basics and acquire best practices from the start.
  2. Choose the right material: To start, it is essential to choose the right equipment, opt for equipment suitable for beginners but which will also allow you to progress. It is also necessary to take into account your size when choosing your equipment. We explain to you at the end of this article which wingfoil equipment to choose according to your size, your desires and your level.
  3. Choose a suitable spot: Select a spot with moderate wind conditions and a sufficiently flat and clear body of water. Avoid crowded areas and make sure you have enough space to move around safely.
  4. Step-by-step progression: Start by getting used to the board and kite as you sail close to the beach. Once you’re comfortable, try wingfoil taking off using pumping techniques. Practice regularly to improve your balance, pumping technique, and foil control.
  5. Stay safe: Wear a life jacket and use a leash to attach your kite to your wrist. Check the weather conditions before leaving for your session and always follow the safety rules in force.

Under what conditions should you practice Wing Foiling?

We advise you to start Wing Foil in average wind conditions on a spot sheltered from the swell (between 15 and 20 knots established). It is easier to start with a sideshore wind so as not to risk being taken out to sea without being able to return (onshore wind) or being constantly brought to shore by the wind (sea wind).

It is advisable to pay attention to the choice of spot to avoid floating algae that prevent the hydrofoil from working properly, as well as any other floating object present. We also advise you to offer bay-shaped spotlights. This way, if you go further away, you can always reach the coast and return on foot with your equipment. Finally, it is ideal to start in a height of water in which you have a foot but with enough depth so that the hydrofoil does not touch the bottom of the water. It is then possible for an experienced sailor with an average size of 80 kg to sail in a Wing Foil over a wind range ranging from 8-10 knots to 40 knots.

Prepare your Wing Foil equipment to get started in Wing!

The Wing Foil has different elements, in order to get into the water as easily as possible without risking damaging your equipment, we recommend the following method :

  1. Prepare your Wing Foil board: assemble your hydrofoil and attach it to your board, attach your leash to the board.
  2. Place it near the water: once the board and foil are mounted, bring the relatives to the place where you want to get in the water.
  3. Dress up: and prepare as if you were going straight into the water.
  4. Inflate your wing : The wing has a strong wind grip, which is why we only advise inflating it just before getting into the water. We advise you to inflate it away from the wind and, if possible, to attach it to an object to avoid any risk of flying away. As soon as the wing is inflated, attach the wing leash to your wrist right away. Avoid abrasion on sand or bitumen.
  5. Join your Wing Foil board: carry the wing by the handle and place the leading edge facing the wind to make it neutral to it and easily carry it. Once you’re close to the water with your wing and Wing Foil board, attach your board leash.
  6. Carry your equipment to the water: as you have left your Wing Foil board close to the water, you only have to walk a few meters carrying both the board and the wing. Be careful to always carry your board in the direction of the wind so as not to risk the wing catching the wind and crashing into the foil.

For wingfoil beginners, it is essential to choose a foil with enough lift and stability to learn and progress quickly. At Sroka Company, we highly recommend our S-Foil 1750 Classic foil for novices. With its large lift surface, it allows for optimal take-off and balance, making it easier to learn the first wingfoil flights. However, don’t let its beginner look fool you, as the S-Foil 1750 is also designed to get you moving up quickly. Its versatility will also allow you to learn SUP Foil, downwind foil and venture into small waves for surf foil. By choosing the S-Foil 1750 foil at Sroka, you are opting for stability, progression and a fast and optimal wingfoil learning experience.

How to take off in wing foiling?

A key step to start in Wingfoil and start having fun in Wing Foil, taking off in Wing Foil is not very complicated but requires you to do it in the right way. Find our illustrated tips and comments below to achieve this from your first session.

conseils pour débuter en wing foil

The first step is to kneel on your board while holding the wing (in the right direction) with the handles provided for this purpose. It is then a question of positioning the wing above your head so that the edges do not touch the water, and in front of the board by orienting it in an axis facing the almost neutral wind. The objective of this step is to control the lift of the wing and its reaction to the wind and to find a stable position on the board. Once you are stable and have good control of the wing, you can orient it in such a way as to better catch the wind and move your foil board forward.

apprendre le wingfoil

To move on to the second stage , you need enough wind speed. Once reached, you can position your front foot flat in the center of the board. This allows you to get up in two steps for ease.

apprendre à décoller en wingfoil

You can then move on to the third step , this time placing your back foot flat on the foil board, allowing you to stand up. It is essential to have a good foot placement: the back foot must be centered on the board and ideally located just above the foil mast, the front foot must be centered on the board in front of your back foot with a foot spacing equivalent to shoulder width. These discrepancies are likely to differ depending on the size and volume of your foil board.

apprendre à voler en wing foil

First of all, we advise you to keep the wing relatively above your head in a position close to lift neutrality (first photo on the left) so as not to be unbalanced by gusts. Then, in a second step, lower it to orient the central flange (or boom depending on the model) so that it is almost parallel to the water. You then get more lift and the board accelerates.

The fourth stage is take-off. You now have enough speed with your board to activate the foil’s lift. To facilitate this, you can perform a light “pumping” movement by successively lightening your weight on the front leg and then on the back leg to play with the angle of the front wing of the foil and make it more load-bearing. When the foil takes off, you have to shift the weight back onto the front leg and hold the wing firmly, staying straight to maximize the lift of the wind. Repeat this sequence as many times as necessary (sometimes once, sometimes ten…) until you take off.

You are now in flight and the duration of this flight depends on your ability to efficiently distribute your weight between the front and rear leg but above all on the orientation/lift axis you give to your wing so that the wind allows you to keep moving forward. Transferring the weight to the rear leg causes the foil to go up and transferring it back to the front leg brings the foil down. It is important to stay upright and keep your center of gravity above the foil to avoid falling.

The windsup + Wing pack for beginners with your family

To learn how to handle a wing with ease, we offer you a SUP adapted to navigation (a fin at the back + a fin in the middle to avoid drifting downwind) and a wing. It’s the best way to discover sailing safely, with the whole family.

For surfers:

For surfers who have more of a surfing and/or surfing foil background than windsurfing or kitesurfing, it can be complicated to navigate using both foot positions (goofy and regular stances). As in the photo opposite, it is possible to sail with your back to the sail in one direction and facing the sail in the other. This has the advantage of ensuring good control of the board and the foil but has the strong disadvantage of making the ascent to the wind much harder (it implies a twisting of the body between the axis of the legs and shoulders). We recommend practicing changing positions to be able to go upwind more efficiently and re-switch to your most comfortable stanza at each turn.

Safety rules

Wing Foil is a risky board sport in the same way as Windsurfing, Kitesurfing or any other Foil sport. We advise each practitioner to equip themselves with the following elements during their session: board leash and wing leash (mandatory), flotation vest / impact vest (mandatory if you exceed the 300m zone), helmet (recommended). It is really not advisable to do a session alone whatever your level, you should always let someone know about your session and the planned practice schedules.

We recommend that you only practice Wing Foil on spots that have been studied and spotted beforehand. As the marine weather is changeable and unpredictable, it is essential to stay close to the coast so that you can return easily and quickly if the wind turns, strengthens or drops completely. Pay close attention to the effects of currents due to tides or swells.

Wing foil, which brand to choose?

When it comes to choosing a brand for wingfoil, opting for the quality of the material is essential. It is important to take into account that price does not always guarantee quality. At Sroka Company, we focus on the constant search for the best quality at the best price. Our commitment to quality is reflected in each of our products, with meticulous attention to detail, durability and performance.

Choosing high-quality equipment for wingfoil has many advantages. This ensures better stability, increased responsiveness, longer service life and a more pleasant riding experience. The quality of the equipment also affects the safety and confidence you feel when you’re on the water, which is essential to enjoying this discipline to the fullest.

When you choose Sroka Company, you can be confident in the quality of our hardware and our commitment to providing you with the best value for your money. We are passionate about wingfoil and we want to share this passion with you by offering you products that meet your highest expectations.

What equipment to choose to start Wing Foiling?

Like any board sport, Wing Foil has a technical side that makes the choice of equipment very important. This technicality is multiplied tenfold by the fact that the Wing Foil solicits both the energy of the wind by the Wing and the energy of the swell by the hydrofoil.

The hydrofoil is composed of a mast, a fuselage, a front wing and a stabilizer. The length of the mast has a real impact on the way of sailing: a shorter mast is more reassuring and easier to start with, but a longer mast allows you to gain more height and avoid touching the surface. The most influential parameter of the foil is the front wing: the profile, the surface, the thickness but also the length and width of the wing have a strong influence on the lift and the behavior of the wing (speed, stability and maneuverability).

The foil board used to practice Wing Foil can vary according to the size and level of practice of each person. However, we strongly advise you to start with a stable SUP Foil board (120 L) so that you can focus more on handling the kite and managing the foil than on balance when starting out.

The Wing is a kite specially designed for Wing Foil. It can also be used on a SUP board without foil for beginners, or with a mountain board (medium wind) or carver (light wind). There are different sizes, constructions, and shapes of Wings. The size of a Wing is measured by its surface area 3m – 4m – 5m – 6m – 7m. A wing equipped with a boom will be easy to handle and stiffer than a wing armed with a central flange, but the latter will be much lighter and more forgiving in gusts of wind. Finally, the thickness and shape of the leading and trailing edge have an impact on the wing’s stiffness, performance, and maneuverability.

OUR ADVICE: the choice of the Wing is very important since it is the “engine” of your Wing Foil. There are two trends in the construction of wings: those that are very light but not very reinforced and therefore not very durable over time (wings are very fragile) and those that are a little heavier with reinforcements but more durable and resistant to impacts. Secondly: it is more interesting and economical to invest in 1 wing size (4m2 or 5m2) and 2 sizes of front foil wing to cover a wider range of use at a lower cost, than in 2 wing sizes and 1 single size of front foil wing. For example: a wing costs an average of 700€ while a front foil wing costs around 350€.

WHAT SIZE WING FOR WING FOIL?

The four front wing sizes of the SROKA S-Foil have been designed interchangeably for a plurality of uses allowing Wing Foil sailing and other disciplines, always according to the level of each practitioner and the conditions:

  • S-Foil XXL 2000 : Beginner (85Kg+) in all conditions, intermediate in light wind (12knots and less)
  • S-Foil XL 1750 : Beginner (70Kg+) in all conditions, intermediate in light winds (12kts and less)
  • S-Foil L 1500 : Beginner (50Kg+) in all conditions, intermediate in light wind (12knots and less)
  • S-Foil M 1250 : intermediate to expert level, 15knots of wind and more, ideal for surf foil
  • S-Foil High Aspect 1190 Speed : intermediate to expert level in 15 knots and more – wing, kite and wind, all sizes
  • S-Foil High Aspect 1190 Lift : intermediate to expert level from 10/12 knots – wing, surf and wake, all sizes

WHAT SIZE BOARD TO PRACTICE WING FOILING?

It is important to have a board that is stable enough for your size and level to start Wing Foil in the best conditions. Beware of miniaturization: it is very hard and very frustrating to start with small equipment, if not impossible, even with a good level of board sports. Board sizes like the 5’8 and 6’3 will be ideal for beginners, although a 50 or 60kg person looking for an evolutionary board may consider a 5’5… but not underneath.

Our Sky Rider range is available in 7 sizes, 5’4, 5’5, 5’7, 5’8, 6’0, and two 6’3 (made in France for the 5’5, 5’8 and 6’3). Inflatable models also have their advantages (available in 5’3, 6′ and 6’4 for the V2 version and V1 version on sale here, while stocks last): resistant to impacts, gentle on the knees, stable and easy to carry, while maintaining great gliding sensations thanks to a carbon plate. Find our full article on inflatable boards here.

quelle vitesse en wingfoil

How fast in wingfoil?

In general, the average wingfoil sailing speed is around 20 knots. It is a comfortable and pleasant speed to enjoy the sensations of gliding and freedom on the water. However, with good progress and experience, it is quite possible to reach higher speeds, around 25 knots or even more. This increased speed is usually achieved by the most advanced riders, who have mastered their technique perfectly and exploit the full potential of their equipment. But it is still important to note that it is not the speed that gives the level of the rider, in fact, it depends on several variables such as the weather conditions, the type of body of water and the equipment

Kitesurfing or wing foiling?

The choice between kitesurfing and wingfoil depends on personal preference and the sensations you are looking for. Kitesurfing offers thrills thanks to the power of the kite, but ideal conditions are rarer. In addition, kitesurfing requires more complex equipment assembly and requires more space to get the kite off the ground. On the other hand, wingfoil offers unique sensations by flying above the water rather than gliding on its surface. Wingfoil is also more convenient, as it can be practiced more frequently in varied conditions and spots. Although it may be slower than kitesurfing, wingfoil offers an immersive sailing experience and unique sensations. The choice between kitesurfing and wingfoil will therefore depend on individual preferences and the desire to experience occasional intense sensations or a more regular and versatile practice.

BRUNO SROKA’S OPINION ON WING FOILING

Wing Foil is a free-ride sport where you maximize the pleasure by minimizing the equipment. Easy to prepare, it’s pure pleasure. We are not looking for the speed or height of the jumps, but the sensation of soaring on the water and the wind swell, alone or with friends without any headaches. It is a 100% fun sport that is made for those who want to have a smile on their face all the time on the water.

My advice:

  • Start on a flat body of water, sheltered from the swell, and never with an onshore wind
  • Pay attention to other practitioners. Over time, you will go upwind and downwind more and downwind, sometimes you have a loss of visibility so check downwind that there is no one there when you start surfing the waves
  • Starting with a large front wing is more stable, a little slower and allows you to fly in lighter wind conditions quickly and without hurting yourself
  • Choose your equipment correctly. It is better to invest in a 4m kite and a foil with two choices of front wing to optimize the wind range and save a lot of money

New Ultra Light Wind and Down Wind board, the DW from Sroka.
Or the board that will make you forget the nickname of tea bag, which has all too often been associated with Wing foil practitioners.
Here, you will discover how to take off with less than 10 knots of wind and discover the downwinder.

A wingfoil board for ultra light wind?

Downwind, like Ultra light wind, are practices that require equipment that can sometimes be specific. The new Sroka DW will allow you to optimize the low range in Light Wind, and take off very early in Downwind.

The type of board for Down Wind and Ultra Light Wingfoil or sup foil.

Starting early comes down to opting for a long, straight board. Indeed, the wider the board will be. The more drag it generates in the water and therefore will slow you down during the take-off phases. Opting for a narrow and long board allows you to reduce drag and therefore accelerate with little wind or few waves in the case of Down Wind.

But why is that?

The drag in the water due to its viscosity greater than air and its density is 800 times greater than in air, it is proportional to the frontal contact surface of the board, so in fact, a wide board will have a wider frontal surface and therefore a greater drag, the length it allows to limit turbulence when sliding the board in the water.
La gamme Elite Downwind

What is the difference between LW and DW?

The LW: this board is dedicated to Light Wind in Wing foil specifically and in general to a versatile Wingfoil, it will allow you to do everything in all conditions from five to 35 knots depending on the size.
The DW: This will allow you to glide in as little wind as possible as part of the Lighwind, but above all will allow you to be placed on a rail to allow you to take off in the slightest little bump during your Downwind practice. It will therefore be by definition less versatile, less easy, but will allow you to get your Light Wind and Downwind performances to the fullest.
The DW is currently divided into two models:

  • The 7’2 Qui will offer you thanks to its 110 l and 20 inches wide, an exceptional glide, and consequently a higher level of performance.
  • The generous 7’2W Plus with its 22 inches wide and 130 l will give access to the Down Wind to the heaviest size, but also to the Light Wind to these same sizes by limiting the difficulty.

It is important to note that each board in Sroka’s elite range includes a ring edge of exceptional quality, which will allow you to carry your new toy, without any risk.

How to take off efficiently and in the least wind possible with a Downwind board?

These boards are made to glide on the water, this is their most crucial advantage that you should use when practicing Ultra Light Wind. It is therefore important to use this ability to take advantage of it.
Let’s take an example, an 88 kg jig with the DW 7 ́2 with a 1350 foil and a 7 m² Wing can take off at five knots of wind if he applies the following method.
Once standing on the board, pump with the Wing, only so that the board slides on the surface of the water. Once you’ve picked up speed, simultaneously pump three or four big times with the Bouygues, and at the same time pump with the Foil so that you can come and perch at the top of the Foil, that’s it, you just have to slide and enjoy your session.
This method allows a gauge of 88 kg to take off in five knots with the equipment mentioned above. You no longer have any excuses in the lake or in the summer at the ocean. Small and larger people will now have a Light Wind wingfoil practice, as well as stronger winds in the image of its brothers and sisters Kitesurfing and windsurfing.

See all Wing foil boards

Sroka’s new DW (Down Wind) board is designed for Wingfoil and Sup Foil in light wind conditions and for downwind descents. It optimises performance in light winds and allows you to take off quickly during downwind descents. The DW is less versatile than the LW (Ultra Light Wind), but offers maximum performance in light winds and downwind. It is available in two models and allows you to take off efficiently thanks to its ability to glide on water. It offers new possibilities for wingfoil riders in light wind and downwind conditions.

In general, we can draw a parallel between the paddle and the car in order to better understand the differences between materials and variations in performance. If the exterior shape of the car matches that of a paddle board, then the car’s motor is equivalent to the paddle. An aluminum paddle is comparable to a small displacement, while a carbon paddle represents a powerful, responsive, and high-performance motor.

Depending on your practice, it is wise to opt for a carbon paddle paddle to optimize performance. In this article, we will detail all the characteristics of aluminum and carbon paddles to help you make the right choice for your practice of inflatable stand up paddle.

Understanding of materials

The Aluminum Paddle

Benefits:

  • The aluminum paddle is affordable, sturdy, and easily accessible.
  • It’s perfect for beginners, offering a solid option even if you bump into it against rocks.
  • Ideal for family use, especially with children who can play without the risk of breakage.

Disadvantages:

  • Weight and responsiveness: Aluminum is heavier and not very reactive. If you paddle for long periods of time, you will feel the weight bothering you.
  • In addition, the aluminum paddle lacks responsiveness. When you dip the blade into the water, the shaft will deform before returning to its normal shape, resulting in a slight reaction time. This feature reduces efficiency and leads to energy loss.

The cost of an aluminum paddle is around 60 euros.

Paddle session in Lanzarote with Malibu SROKA stand-up paddle board

The Carbon Paddle

Benefits: The carbon paddle is renowned for its responsiveness and lightness.

  • It offers superior performance thanks to its responsiveness.
  • Its light weight facilitates performance, reducing the effort required to cover the same distance.

Just like aluminum paddles, carbon paddles come in different sizes. You can opt for an adjustable paddle, adaptable to all body types, or for a fixed paddle adjusted to your size.

However, there are two major drawbacks to carbon paddles:

  • Their fragility: they are more sensitive to impacts and require special attention.
  • Their high price: it costs about 180 euros for a good carbon paddle.

The 50% carbon paddle with a plastic blade: another alternative!

A third alternative exists: the carbon paddle (usually composed of 50% carbon and the rest fiberglass) with a plastic blade.

This interesting option combines the lightness and responsiveness of a carbon paddle with the strength of a plastic blade, similar to that of aluminum paddles.

The advantageous price for this option is around 120 to 130 euros, while offering good performance.

The Right Paddle
How to hold your paddle in stand-up paddle boarding

Which paddle to choose according to your use?

  • If you’re going for an occasional ride, opt for an aluminum paddle for its strength and affordability.
  • In a paddle wave practice, go on a quality carbon paddle because you will need nervousness and reactivated to succeed in catching a wave.
  • If you are looking for a performance paddle and/or to do long distances, we advise you to go for a light and responsive paddle and therefore a carbon paddle. So you’ll be able to cover more distance with less effort. As a result, you will have a better return.

All our paddle paddling

Tips for choosing your paddle

Consider how often you practice. If you plan to go in the water regularly, choose a quality paddle. On the other hand, if your outings will be occasional, an aluminum paddle should be more than enough.

Budget / Price for a paddle paddle

Budget is an essential criterion to consider. Here are some options:

  1. Aluminum paddle board
    : Price around 60 euros.

  2. 50% carbon sup paddle with plastic blade
    : Costs between 120 and 130 euros.
  3. Removable paddle paddle 50% carbon with carbon blade : Count about 180 euros.

  4. Paddle paddle 60% Carbon
    : Count about 180 euros.

Paddle size

Depending on your discipline (surfing, running, walking), the length of the paddle will have to be adapted.

  • For surfing and running, a shorter paddle is recommended
  • For rides, you can opt for a slightly larger size

Bottom line: Your paddle is the equivalent of your car’s engine. The higher its efficiency, the greater your rowing efficiency will be. The carbon paddle offers the best performance, but it has the disadvantage of being more fragile and more expensive. If you practice paddling occasionally, I recommend the option of the carbon shaft with a plastic blade, which is a great compromise. On the other hand, if you’re new to paddle boarding, an aluminum paddle will do the trick perfectly. Remember that the paddle can be changed, but a good paddle can accompany you for a long time without needing a replacement.

For more information on how to adjust your paddle, we advise you to look at this article.

Go on a paddle adventure, don’t forget to have fun!

To be effective in Wing Foil in the Light wind, you have to adapt your equipment to glide better and leave earlier. This requires an appropriate choice of board and foil to optimize the glide as much as possible. So let’s detail all the information you need to know to choose correctly the right board to sail in light wind or even ultra light in Wing foil.

The type of board to sail in light wind in Wing foil

To leave early, you should opt for a long and narrow board. Indeed, the wider the board, the more drag it generates. Reducing drag means increasing the length of the board and decreasing its width.

If we take the example of paddle boards. The longer and thinner the paddle and the more the paddle will slide, conversely the shorter and wider the paddle will be and the more the paddle will turn but slide less.

Based on this premise, if you want to start very early, you need to choose the right board: long and narrow.

But why?

Drag in water is 800 times greater in water than in air. It is proportional to the frontal contact area of the board in the water. So the wider the board, the bigger the area of friction with the water will be. So basically, a wide and shorter board will glide less well than a long and narrow board.

Drag is also proportional to velocity squared. So the more you want to accelerate, the more a wide board will increase its drag and consequently have difficulty accelerating.

In our range, we have two types of boards that could allow you to sail in very light wind (between 5 and 10 knots).

Firstly, the LW “light wind” range is a range predestined to sail in this very light wind. The LW will also excel in stronger winds in race or in long-distance freeride and surf wing in light winds.

The 3 board sizes in the LW range

  • 5’7x 20 x75 L
  • 6’2 x21x 90 L
  • 6’6 x 22 x105 L

To optimize your light wind sessions in wing foil, take a board with at least 10 L more than your weight.

Secondly, there is the DW range which will be even longer and will allow you to set off even more in very light winds. But it will be more suitable for downwind and light wind.

There are two sizes of board to do light wind in Wing foil and downwind with a paddle or wing wing.

  • 7’2W x22 x 130 L
  • 7’2x20x 110 L

Downwind board Wingfoil, prone and sup foil paddle

Personally, to choose the right type of board, I will set up this methodology

  • If you want to do only light wind, downwind in wing and a little wing foil in the waves in light conditions or do a little prone, I will opt for the LW range
  • If you want to do light wind, downwind in wing and/or Sup foil (with a paddle) or if you want to do Sup foil in the waves, I will opt for the DW range

Of course, start with a foil that is a little more generous at the start to make it easier to learn. If your technique is on top, then you can choose smaller front wings to maximize glide and speed feelings.

How to sail in light wind with a wing foil?

A bit of Starting Technique:

  • Go almost to a standstill. Pump with your wing to gain horizontal speed. Don’t try to fly right away, focus on horizontal speed at first.
  • Then, when you feel you have enough horizontal speed, give 2 push-ups obliquely to use the lift of the wing to lift the board out of the water. At the same time, pump with your feet to help with take-off.

Learn to fly with a minimum of distance:

  • The key is to learn how to fly in a gust of up to 5 meters. This means you need to take off quickly and efficiently. Over a short distance, you will have to give all your energy to take off. If you have to pump a long distance, it’s almost impossible. So save your energy to give it your all at the right time.
  • Store power in your wing. If your wing comes back to you too quickly during the pumping, it means that the wing has not stored enough power. You have to adapt the way you pump. Forward-to-back arm movements do not work. Instead, you should do figure-8s with your arms, especially in light winds.
  • Finally, take off on the right foot (regular or goofy) if you have a preferred side to pump, start on the right side.

Observation and Anticipation

When you want to wing foiler in light wind, pay attention to micro gusts. It is necessary to constantly anticipate soft winds or gusts. It is easier to pump with the gust than without the gust. And during the flight, if you observe in front of you a soft wind that is forecast in front of you, you have to start pumping with the wing and/or the board to get past the no-wind zone. On the other hand, if you observe a gust in front of you, you will be able to accelerate and go upwind to gain ground to the wind to be comfortable if a slump occurs afterwards. The reading of the body of water is therefore fundamental.

Energy & Technology:

  • To improve your technique, choose a calm body of water to make it easier to learn how to sail in light wind in Wing foil.
  • Wing foil pumping in light wind and chop is much more technical because the chop will block the horizontal speed of the board. So train to improve your technique to go in all conditions.

See the LW boards

Flying in light wind in Wing foil requires a real learning curve. Those who are strong in strong winds are not necessarily strong in light winds. You have to adapt your technique and improve your efficiency and you have to adapt your equipment.

The opportunity presents itself to stand out, choosing to fly before others in light allows you to save many sessions, especially for our friends who sail in inland waters.

Paddle or stand up paddle (SUP) is a discipline that has developed strongly over the last 10 years. This sport has its origins in Polynesian culture. It has grown strongly around the world with its versatility as well as its ease of learning.

Inflatable paddle boards have played a major role in its development thanks to its practicality and ease of transport. In addition, with the arrival of foils and their development on the market, this sport has greatly evolved in its different variations: SUP foil, downwind foil…

Whether you’re a beginner looking to get started in the discipline or you’re a more experienced rider looking to improve your technique and performance, the choice of equipment, especially the paddle, can make all the difference. In this article, we will help you to equip yourself for paddle and downwind foil. We’ll explore paddle boarding and its performance by looking at carbon and aluminum paddles to help you make the best choice.

Carbon Paddle vs Aluminum Paddle

For the choice of paddle, there are two more common options, the aluminum paddle or the carbon paddle. They come in 2 or 3 parts. It’s up to you to choose the best option for you.

1. The Aluminum Paddle Paddle

As for the aluminum paddle, which is the most common and cheap. It may be heavier, but its strength won’t disappoint. Perfectly suited to occasional walking use, it will accompany you in all your sessions. In addition, its plastic blade requires less attention to detail on a daily basis and will be more resistant to everyday impacts.

Available in two or three parts, it will be perfect for family use, it will also be suitable for children. Indeed, we have Aluminum children’s paddles that are smaller, stronger and sturdy.

Adjustable and adaptable to all sizes, it will suit you and your friends very well. The three-piece paddle is a little less rigid than the two-piece paddle but can be stored directly in the carrying bag of your inflatable paddle and therefore you can combine pleasure and practicality without having to have the trunk full of equipment.

Two- or three-piece aluminum paddle for stand up paddleboarding

2. Carbon Paddle Paddle

The carbon paddle is the more efficient of the two. Available in one, two or three parts. They are light, nervous… This will allow you to perform at your best in every session. This nervousness will give you more efficiency and efficiency with each stroke of the oar. You’ll be able to cover more distance with less effort.

Available in 50% or 100% carbon, Sroka carbon paddles will accompany you every time you go into the water.

The 2 and three part paddles will allow you to test different lengths and find your ideal length as well as to be able to modify the length according to the activity: walking, surfing, racing… and also to be able to relieve certain muscles.

Indeed, in surfing, the paddle should be shorter, in walking, you can lengthen the paddle a little. In the sup foil, you will have to lengthen it a little more. A longer paddle will relieve your lower back and a shorter paddle your shoulders and thus allow you to enjoy your sessions longer in comfort.

Paddle: Carbon Paddle vs Aluminum Paddle

As for the 1-part paddle, it will be recommended to the experienced rider, offering you rigidity, nervousness, reactivity, it will transmit the best of your performance. Adjustable to the millimetre, get ready to perform in the field.

Is there another option between carbon paddle and aluminum paddle?

Yes, there is still a third choice: a Mixed paddle. The shaft is made of 50% carbon and the blade is made of carbon-reinforced plastic. This makes it possible to combine solidity, nervousness of the handle and have a product with an excellent value for money. This type of paddle is perfectly suited for inflatable paddle boards.

Paddle 50% carbon vario, Plastic blade 2-3 parts

All paddle accessories

In short

In summary, the choice of paddle can make a big difference to your experience. It is important to keep in mind the advantages and disadvantages of each paddle and to choose the paddle that best suits what you are looking for and your use.

The aluminium paddle:

  • cheap
  • solid
  • practice
  • adjustable
  • heavier

The carbon paddle:

  • Nervous
  • Reactive
  • performance
  • lightness

Or the third option: A 50% carbon pale plastic paddle. A compromise between the different options

Above all, have fun on the water!

At Sroka this pack is equipped with a 5m2 sail with a board ranging from 5.7 to 6.3 (105L to 120L). And a full foil of 1750cm2. The pack is scalable with all the boards and foils in the range. He will be able to accompany you throughout your progress. For a Rigid pack, it costs between 2000 and 2800 €.

It is important to note that at Sroka our foils are interchangeable. So you can change your front and stabilizers and even your board as you progress and thus constantly progress.

Separate purchase of equipment

You can also purchase your equipment separately. This is mainly done by the more experienced riders who know what they want, which allows us to better meet your needs and provide you with high-quality equipment “with the little onions”.

It is important to know that it is not recommended to mix brands, especially on the board and foil. Not all foils work under all boards, in fact, each manufacturer has its own specificities.

The wing foil board

It is the one that will be in contact with the water and that will allow you to take off. There’s no point in taking a board that’s too small. Indeed, it will handicap you more than anything else. So first of all, you have to Keep your level in mind and avoid overestimating yourself… At the risk of finding yourself in much more difficulty. It is essential to choose A board at the right size to progress. It’s always worth keeping in mind that a bulkier wing board will be needed in light wind conditions. And will allow you to return safely to your destination when the wind drops.

For a beginner, it is recommended to choose a board that is about 20-30 liters heavier than the rider’s weight. A rider with better control will rather start on an equal board or 10 liters more. And an expert rider will opt more for a wing board that is lower than its weight.

The rigid wing foil board

Offering more ease for learning, it improves gliding on the water and tends to bounce more, thus facilitating an easy take-off. The rigid board is The most used on spots, existing in different constructions, fiberglass sandwich (offering a solid board and cheaper than carbon) or carbon sandwich (more expensive, the carbon sandwich will offer you a stronger and above all much lighter board) and with multiple shapes and sizes…

And therefore all budgets. It’s perfect for all riders, from beginner to expert, offering more room for improvement. Allowing you to offer more Dynamism and control. It will cost between 800€ and 2000€ depending on the brands and constructions. At Sroka we offer a variety of boards suitable for all levels and riding styles, from From Skyrider to Elite, there’s something for every taste and every level.

The inflatable wing foil board

Easy to store and transport, the inflatable board is ideal for itinerant wingfoilers. Indeed, it is Lighter and easier to store. Although it is less efficient than a rigid board, and requires inflation to 15PSI… A great warm-up. Its performance remains valuable. It will be perfect for casual riders who are not looking for performance, or beginners. For an inflatable board, it costs €300 to €800. For more information on our inflatable boards Click here.

The foil

The foil, one of the essential equipment of wingfoil. It is therefore essential to Choose a suitable foil but also a quality and scalable foil that will follow you throughout your progress. This is the equipment that has evolved the most over the past few years. It is therefore better to opt for a foil and thus benefit from all the new technologies and to be able to continue to change the fins so that it follows your progress. Composed of different parts, the mast, the fuselage, the wing and the stabilizer.

The carbon foil

The carbon foil, which is the most efficient foil if it is well built. Find out more about The construction of a carbon foil, we wrote an article for you above. But it’s also the most expensive. There is no such thing as a real carbon mast, affordable and lightweight, of good quality. If it is cheap, it may be foamed and therefore supple underfoot. For a carbon foil, you have to count on 2200 € without counting the fins and stabilizers that will be added. A carbon foil is therefore mostly recommended for advanced riders who are looking to surpass themselves even more than with an aluminum foil.

Our carbon foils

The aluminium foil

The aluminium foil, is the most common foil on the market, indeed cheaper than carbon, it is perfect for most riders. Count about 800-1000€ for a whole aluminum foil. We Sroka offer ultra-scalable aluminium foils with which you can adapt all our fins and stabilizers. If you are hesitating between a carbon or aluminium foil, read article if above.

At Sroka we offer you the best carbon mast on the market, a jewel of technology that will make you exceed your limits on the spot. This high-quality ultra-rigid mast, which can be upgraded thanks to the compatibilities of Sroka foils, will accompany you during all your sessions, whether you are surfing, freeriding, freestyle or racing. For more information on carbon foiling, click here.

The Wing

The Wing is crucial to have maximum pleasure during your sailing, it is important to opt for a suitable wing. Also, for your safety, no need to take the biggest sail on the spot. Choose A sail adapted to the conditions and your size. Choosing the right wing for the right sail will give you increased pleasure and comfort while sailing. The Wing SROKA V4 and the Wing SROKA V4 Elite will be your ally in all weathers.

It is recommended to have a set of 2 sails depending on your size and the conditions where you are sailing. For example, an 80 kg rider sailing in Brittany will rather go for a 4m2 and a 5m2 in order to optimize his sailing range as well as possible and not miss any session. A wingfoil sail costs between 500 and 1000€ depending on the brands and qualities of the sails. The sails can even reach more than 2000€ for the special race sails. At Sroka we offer you the Sroka Wing V4 from 720€. The Wing SROKA Elite is priced at €1500.

Accessories

Accessories and equipment should be taken seriously, as they guarantee both your safety and enjoyment while sailing. Equip yourself with a wetsuit suitable for the temperatures, a helmet and an impact vest are highly recommended. It costs about 50€ for a helmet and 150€ for a vest. The Impact vest PRO Sroka is 149.00 €. Especially Never forget your board and sail leashes, it’s your 😉 life insurance.

In summary, to equip yourself with a wingfoil you need to count on:

The inflatable pack: It costs between 1500 and 2000€.

The rigid pack: A hard pack is around €2500.

Separately, if you buy the different items out of pack.

For the board it costs about 999 €, for the wing about 850 €, for the complete foil between 1000 € for an aluminum foil and 2500 € for a carbon foil.

It is important to bring a good wetsuit adapted to the temperatures of your sailing area. So count about 250€ or more depending on the model, for the helmet more or less 50€ and for the impact jacket about 150€.

When you want to choose a new foil, you are attracted to 100% carbon foils because all the brands suggest that it is the best of the best. However, the reality is not so clear-cut. What are the criteria to consider before buying a carbon foil?

In this article, we’re going to talk about what we don’t tell you about carbon foils to help you make the right choice.

“If a carbon foil is sold for twice as much as an aluminium foil without having a gain in performance, there is no point” Bruno Sroka.

The carbon foil must bring more performance, more rigidity, more glide, more finesse of flight, less drag, more nervousness otherwise you might as well keep an aluminum foil.

What is a carbon foil?

It is common to hear that people think that a 100% carbon foil is always more efficient, stiffer or faster than a foil with an aluminum base (mast & fuselage), but THIS IS NOT TRUE. To be efficient, a mast must be thin and extremely rigid, which is contradictory; The more you refine a mast, the more susceptible it will be to bending and twisting. It is easy to make a carbon mast as rigid as an aluminium mast if it is thick, but with a production cost often 2 times higher, you pay twice as much for a mast for the same performance, which is useless.

The challenge of developing a high-performance mast is to use the best carbon with the best draping plane in order to have a mast that is both thin and ultra-rigid. Indeed, a steep mast is the most important thing to have a high-performance foil. The stiffness of a mast makes it possible to stiffen the entire foil (the mast is like a connecting arm between the board and the load-bearing part of the foil), the stiffer it is, the more responsive the foil is and therefore the downforce and the reaction of the foil will be precise. So stiffness is fundamental. For more information on the differences between 100% carbon foils and aluminum foils, check out our article on the subject. In short, having a high-performance carbon foil requires a thin and thick and rigid rope mast.

1. The Quality of Carbon Fibers

The quality of the carbon fibers used for the mast is essential. There are three main types of carbon: basic, mid-range and high-modulus (high-modulus). The latter results in increased stiffness, reduced elongation and superior responsiveness, making it a preferred choice for high-performance foils. However, high modulus masts can cost up to two to three times more than basic carbon masts. For example, in our carbon foil, we use M40J which is a high modulus carbon used for Formula 1 and aerospace. It provides flexural stiffness with little elongation but costs much more.

2. Mast Profile

The thickness and chord of the mast are of immense importance in the rigidity and drag of a mast. A thin mast (about 14 mm) will have much less streak than a thick mast ( > at 16 mm). It will glide better and allow you to reach higher speeds with its ultra thin profile while giving you a better response thanks to its stiffness. The Sroka carbon mast is available in 14mm and 16mm thickness depending on your preferences and needs. The Elite mast in 14 mm will be very thin and stiff. The 16mm mast will be less slippery but lighter and a little less rigid but cheaper.

How do you make a rigid carbon mast? Our Pick:

The construction of a carbon mast is a very technical process. But here’s how to get a rigid carbon mast.

To have a steep mast, there are only two solutions:

  • Either you increase its thickness and its rope to stiffen the whole thing and consequently you can foam the inside and be light.
This is the simplest and least expensive solution, but we greatly increase the drag of the mast and therefore the mast is slower.
  • Either we increase the quality of the carbon fibers that we put in the mast (high modulus fiber) and we increase the quantity of material so that we can reduce the thickness of the mast and the rope as much as possible. So we have a reduction in drag, an improvement in glide, speed, while having a very responsive and efficient foil.

At Sroka, we have therefore chosen the second option. Offering you one of the best carbon masts on the market, combining thin thickness, thin rope and foolproof rigidity.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Q7GFd8HUko
Carbon foil: what to consider before buying

The fuselage

There are two ways to make a fuselage:

  1. Or we keep an aluminum fuselage which will be heavier and which will force you to disassemble your foil after each session in order to avoid oxidation between the aluminum and the stainless steel (the screws).
  2. Either the fuselage is made of carbon in order to avoid this oxidation and to save weight. But it will be more vulnerable to impacts. So we’ll have to be more careful. The last option is to make a titanium/carbon fuselage.

We at Sroka have chosen the carbon fiber option for a 100% carbon foil and to reduce the price of the foil, we also offer an aluminum fuselage.

The length of the fuselage determines the maneuverability of the foil, the longer a fuselage is, the more stable it is in the longitudinal axis but the less manoeuvrable the foil. Conversely, a very short fuselage will increase maneuverability and the ability to pump easily, losing longitudinal stability.

However, if the mast is thin with little rope, its manoeuvrability is increased, making it more manoeuvrable. Thus, one can maintain a longer fuselage while being just as maneuverable as with a less maneuverable mast that requires a shorter fuselage.

We refer you to the video next to it which explains all the differences.

Carbon foil fuselage What criteria to take into account when buying

The front wing

The performance of a foiling front wing depends on various characteristics, such as its wingspan, chord, thickness, twist and the profile used. This is defined by the ratio aspect, which is the ratio between the wingspan of the wing and its chord. For example, the higher the ratio, the larger the wing relative to its chord. It is therefore more elongated and narrower.

  • Low aspect ratio: These are foils with a lot of rope and very little wingspan. They will be great to start with, however, they will quickly saturate in speed due to their large string.
  • Medium aspect ratio: The perfect compromise between high aspect and low aspect. These foils are accessible to all levels. They are perfect for beginners while giving you a lot of room for improvement. They correspond to the foils of our Classic range. In large size or from the Control range in the performance range.
  • High Aspect Ratio: With a high aspect ratio, these foils are more technical than the others. Allowing a maximum of glide of flight and therefore an excellent glide and will be able to fly for a long time. They match our High Aspect foil range.

Carbon foil fins, their criteria

The Stabilizer

Technical plan of the carbon foil, the criteria to be taken into account for the purchase
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq-wdLp8S-I

The role of the stabilizer (stab) or rear fin is to stabilize the foil.

The bigger the stabilizer, the more stable the foil will be, but it also means that there will be more drag and therefore you will go slower. On the other hand, a smaller stabilizer will stabilize the whole thing less but will offer much more glide, because less drag and can also allow you to go faster.

At Sroka we offer 3 types of stabilizers,

  1. The 300cm2, the most stable stabilizer in our range, perfect for beginner riders or riders with big front wings.
  2. The 240 cm2, the medium, a compromise between stability and speed. Adaptable with all our front wings. It will be your best friend in light wind and also for people looking for comfort and speed in navigation.
  3. The 180 cm2, a speed weapon. With its ultra-slim profile, it will allow you to exceed your speed limits.

It is important to remember that the use of adjustment wedges will allow you to adapt it even better to your sailing style and your size. It also allows us to reduce the number of stabs and thus meet all needs. By increasing the lift, by putting an angle under the rear screw or by removing the angle (i.e. by increasing the thickness under the front screw), the lift and therefore the drag are reduced. For more information on adjusting stabilizers with corner shims, watch this video.

To conclude:

  • To have the best carbon mast, you need the best carbon and the best draping plane with a thin profile with little thickness and rope. Compare, take a look, you will see many differences. If the information is not clear in a brand. Ask yourself why? Or ask them!
  • A mast with a thinner profile and a thin rope like the Sroka carbon mast will allow you to reach higher speeds and offer a better response from your foil.
  • The way the mast is made is very important. An ultra-light carbon mast is absolutely not a sign of quality. It will be supple and will surely lather on the inside. As a result, it will be less rigid and more “marshmallow” underfoot.
  • The choice of the front fin is essential in order to adapt your equipment to your requirements and thus optimize.

The paddle is an essential element to be able to practice paddle boarding. The paddle can be identified with the engine of a car. So choosing the right paddle for paddle boarding is essential to be in line with your needs. Its adapted choice will determine your paddling comfort, your power to generate speed, and be more efficient to tire less over time.

What type of paddle?

1. Paddle Fixed, adjustable or removable.

  • Fixed paddle paddle : this is a paddle that cannot be adjusted in length. It’s lighter, stiffer, and more capable than an adjustable paddle, but it needs to be cut to the right size for you. Indeed, it is suitable for experienced paddlers who have a regular practice and a defined sailing style.
  • Adjustable paddle paddle : this is a paddle that can be adjusted in length thanks to a system of clips or screws. It’s heavier, less rigid, and less capable than a fixed paddle, but it offers more versatility and comfort. It is suitable for beginner or intermediate paddlers who have occasional or varied practice.
  • Removable paddle paddle : this is a paddle that separates into two or three parts for easy transport and storage. It can be fixed or adjustable. It is more practical than a one-piece paddle, but it is more likely to break or play at the junctions.

What material should I use?

2. An aluminum, fiberglass or carbon handle? What is your choice?

  • Aluminum: it is a strong, resistant and economical material, often used for the handle or blade. It offers good stability in the water, but it is also heavy and cold. It is suitable for beginners or casual paddlers who are looking for a cheap and durable paddle paddle.
  • Fiberglass: it is a light, rigid and resistant material, often used for the handle or blade. It offers good performance and power transfer, it is also more expensive and more fragile than other materials. It is suitable for intermediate or experienced paddlers who are looking for a quality paddle paddle.
  • Carbon: it is a very light, very stiff and high-performance material, often used for the shaft or blade. It offers excellent responsiveness and comfort, but it is also very expensive and sensitive to shocks. It is suitable for experienced or expert paddlers who are looking for a high-end paddle paddle.

Tips for choosing the right paddle paddle

3. What size blade?

The blade plays an important role in the performance of a paddle board. It comes in different shapes and sizes. As a rule of thumb, the wider the blade, the more water it propels out. The power of the movement makes it possible to paddle less often. A narrower blade requires less force to paddle. Since paddle strokes are less effective, you need to produce more movements to move forward at the same speed as with a wider blade.

So if you’re looking for comfort, opt for a larger pale. If you’re looking for performance, reduce the size of your paddle’s blade.

alpha paddle in the water

4.What type of blade

As with the paddle handle, there are different types of blades.

Mainly there are plastic blades: it is a light, flexible and cheap material but very strong. It provides good maneuverability, but it is also less rigid and less efficient than other materials. It is suitable for beginners or casual paddlers who are looking for an easy-to-use and very solid paddle board.

Then there are composite blades, usually fiberglass or carbon which provides rigidity, efficiency and performance. However, it is more expensive and more fragile to impacts. So for families with children, we don’t recommend this option.

-The blade plays an important role in the performance of a paddle board.

How to adjust your SUP paddle?

To conclude, a wide blade is suitable for beefy riders, able to produce powerful paddle strokes without getting tired too quickly. A narrower blade is usually intended for women and children with less strength in their arms.

How long should a paddle paddle be?

The length of a paddle paddle depends on several factors: the size of the rider, the thickness of the paddle board, its width, but also the activity practiced with the paddle.

As a rule of thumb, you need to add 10 to 20 cm to your height to find the length of your paddle. But this is by no means a hard and fast rule, as not all paddle board activities require the same paddle length. For paddle surfing, the paddle should be a little shorter to avoid hindering your movements. Do you like to go on long rides on your Stand Up Paddle? In this case, don’t cut corners on the length of the paddle. Here are some tips to help you choose your paddle board.

  • For paddle surfing or short-distance rides, choose a paddle that is 8 cm higher than your height.
  • Are you looking for a versatile paddle for mid-distance SUP tours? Opt for a paddle that is 20 cm larger than your height.
  • Long-distance paddle rides are most effective with a paddle that is 25 cm higher than your height.

See all paddle paddling

To conclude

To choose the right paddle for paddle boarding, you must take into account your level, your physical dimension, your frequency of practice and your sailing style.

If you compare a paddle board to a car. The board corresponds to the body of the car and the engine of your car to the paddle. So choosing the right paddle will allow you to optimize the performance of your paddle and your paddling efficiency. A good paddle will keep for life. A board will change according to your technical evolution.

The discipline of foiling has grown tremendously in recent years, especially with the emergence of wing foiling, which allows you to glide across the water using a kite and a foil.

The foil consists of a mast, a fuselage and two fins: a load-bearing front fin and a rear fin to stabilize the whole.

There are different types of foils, depending on the materials used, such as aluminum or carbon.

In this article, we’ll take a look at the benefits of carbon foiling, while debunking some common misconceptions, including those that claim carbon foils are consistently better and lighter than their aluminum counterparts.

Is the carbon foil really more efficient than an aluminum foil?

1. Stiffness and performance, yes but no.

Firstly, a carbon mast is not necessarily steeper than an aluminium mast. If, on a mast that is 16mm thick, there is only 2mm of carbon then it will not be stiffer than an aluminium mast and above all it will be less solid.

The advantage of a carbon mast is to be able to reduce drag as much as possible while being rigid in bending and torsion.

To do this, you need to increase the amount of carbon, increase the quality of the carbon fibers, and have a consistent and relevant draping plan.

Carbon Quantity Carbon Quantity Diagram (1)

This is not the case for all carbon masts. One of the big advantages of having a carbon foil is to reduce drag as much as possible with the maximum possible stiffness/ This brings stability, better acceleration and better handling. The performance is significantly higher.

If the carbon foil is well constructed, it brings a feeling of nervousness, reactivity, control and glide.

For example, let’s make a comparison of carbon foil and aluminum foil. Identical thickness and rope (11mm rope, and 14mm thick). The aluminum mast is softer and twists when sailing, which created lag times, loss of nervousness, glide and/or control. That’s why we thicken the aluminium masts.

The carbon foil, on the other hand, will bring increased responsiveness and responsiveness if, and only if, the quality of the carbon fibers is increased and the quantity of carbon is also increased.

If there is deformation under the stress of a large force, the carbon will return to its original position more quickly. The carbon foil will then provide precision on the downforce and finer control when sailing.

2. Lightness, yes but no.

The density of a carbon part is 1.80 g/ml, while that of aluminum is 2.7 g/ml. So on paper, carbon looks a lot lighter. However, if you want an ultra-stiff carbon foil, you have to increase the amount of carbon.

If we produce a solid carbon mast, then it will not be much lighter than a hollow aluminum mast. On the other hand, the carbon mast will be much thinner (14mm vs. 18’5mm for aluminum) with less rope. You will gain about 200-300 g for the same size.

However, if you thicken the carbon mast and put foam inside, you can save between 500 and 900 g per pole. In this case, it can be said that the carbon mast is lighter.

3. Durability and Versatility

Sustainability is added to the many benefits of carbon foiling. Damaging your kite because of a stone or having scratches that appear as a result of friction can happen.

The advantage of a carbon foil is that it can be easily repaired by sanding it down and adding carbon. However, it is not recyclable, unlike aluminum. It is therefore necessary to choose your carbon foil carefully to have the maximum stiffness, finesse and so that it is the most durable over time and that it can accompany you in your practice and your progress.

Another advantage of carbon is that it resists corrosion and wear well, unlike aluminum which can prick or crack over time. Carbon is therefore a non-recyclable but sustainable material that guarantees you optimal use for several years if you are careful.

4. A few tips.

  1. To maximize the durability of your foil, avoid all friction with sand or pebbles and avoid resting your board on the rail with the foil resting on the ground on one side. Doing so may damage the fins and lose efficiency.
  2. Protect your mast in a mast cover to avoid any shocks.
  3. It is advisable not to leave a carbon foil in direct sunlight. Epoxy resins cure from 65-70 degrees (typically, sometimes even earlier). A foil in direct sunlight with high temperatures can easily exceed 80 degrees. As a result, the resins soften and if you use your foil immediately, you risk weakening the whole thing. It is therefore recommended to let the foil cool down before going back into the water.
  4. The same applies if your foil has been in your car for a long time with high heat.
  5. Remember that even if your foil is well built, a foil is an underwater plane. Any contact with an obstacle will damage it.
  6. Rinse it from time to time and in case you use it very frequently, check it regularly from all angles.

In Conclusion

In conclusion, using a carbon foil has many advantages over aluminum. Carbon offers stiffness (if you use high modulus fibers), lightness, durability and incomparable versatility, which will allow you to fully enjoy the gliding sensation offered by the foil.

If you want to
invest in a carbon foil
, invest in a very good and quality carbon mast. It will certainly cost you a little more, but it will prevent you from buying another one 1 or 2 years later. We advise you to discover our Sroka Elite Carbon range, which offers a 100% high modulus M40J foil, with a thin mast (14mm thick with 10.9cm of rope) and efficient.

If absolute performance doesn’t appeal to you, take a look at the SOLO 16mm thick carbon foil . It will bring you lightness, rigidity at a more measured price.

Finally, we go the range of our Alu foils which are very efficient with the simplicity of an aluminum foil.

The carbon mast is an essential part of a carbon foil, which influences the stability, control, maneuverability and speed of your wingfoil. Different characteristics are determined by the thickness, the chord of the mast, the hydrodynamic profile of the mast, the amount of carbon and the quality of the carbon fibers.

Therefore, choosing the right Carbon Foil will determine the overall performance of your foil. Based on this observation, SROKA offers two types of carbon masts: the 14mm and the 16mm. What are the differences between these two carbon masts and how to choose the carbon foil that suits you best?

What are the criteria we look for in a carbon foil mast?

The stiffness of a mast is determined by various parameters such as its thickness, chord (distance between the leading board and the trailing edge), the hydrodynamic profile and the quantity and quality of carbon applied in the mast.

  • To go fast and have a crazy glide, you need a very thin mast with very little rope.

  • To have a rigid mast, you need a thick mast, with a lot of rope, and a lot of carbon.
  • To have a light mast, you need to put less carbon.

However, if you invest in a carbon mast that is very expensive, it is to obtain a real gain in performance. So why pay the price of a carbon foil to have the same performance as an aluminum mast? It doesn’t make sense!

Therefore, if you are interested in a carbon foil, you might as well invest in an excellent carbon mast with the best compromise between glide, rigidity and lightness and control.

How to choose my carbon foil.
SROKA 16mm Carbon Foil

How to choose your SROKA Elite carbon foil with a 14mm thick mast built in 100% high modulus M40J
SROKA Elite Carbon Foil 14mm

Two opposing visions confront each other.

Option 1

To keep a mast rigid at a slightly more attractive price, we increase the chord of the mast and/or increase its thickness and decrease the amount of carbon and/or the quality of carbon in the mast. In our case, we made the choice to increase the thickness to 16mm and to decrease the amount of M40J high modulus fiber. This compromise allowed us to be as steep as the Elite carbon mast in 14 mm but with only 60% M40J (high modulus carbon)

Option 2

To search Maximum performance, you have to reduce the rope as much as possible, reduce the thickness as much as possible and to do this We need to increase the amount of carbon (140 layers of carbon in our 14mm Elite mast) and increase the quality of the carbon fibers by using high modulus carbon. (So the mast is 100% High Modulus M40 J).

The consequences of a thicker mast:

  • Less speed
  • Less glide
  • may be less rigidity (depending on the quality of the fibers that have been put in the mast)
  • Less manoeuvrability (due to increased rope)
  • Less performance in general.
  • The only gain will be a lighter foil weight
  • A more attractive price

The consequences of a thinner and steeper mast:

  • More glide and speed
  • More Glide
  • More responsiveness of the foil
  • More control
  • More Strength
  • Can be used for breeding, freestyle, waves or cruising.
  • More manoeuvrability, especially in curves
  • Slightly higher mast weight as well as price

In short

The 14 mm Elite mast is one of the most efficient on the market thanks to its 100% high modulus M40J construction and 140 layers of carbon. It combines increased performance, optimal strength and appreciable thinness. Investing in this quality mast guarantees you long-lasting satisfaction, without having to change it to keep up with marketing trends. Buying a well-built 2000 euro mast will be more profitable than buying 2 1700 euro masts that promise you more stiffness than the previous model.

If, on the other hand, absolute performance is not your goal, the 16 mm 60% high modulus carbon mast will do the trick very well. It will give you stiffness, solidity and durability with a little less glide and speed compared to the Elite Carbon Mast in 14mm.

For whom and for what use?

Foil Elite 14mm | 85cm

14mm carbon mast

The 14mm carbon mast is ideal for experienced riders looking for maximum performance and speed, control and handling. More particularly, the 14mm carbon mast is suitable for all foiling disciplines, but it particularly stands out in surfing, jumping, pumping, wing and downwind where glide and solidity are the most important elements. It is made with 100% M40J high modulus carbon. As a result, it offers greater rigidity than 16mm, both in bending and torsion. It is therefore recommended for freestyle, freesurfing, pumping, racing and freeride.

16mm carbon mast

It’s ideal for riders looking for versatility and ease of use. The 16mm carbon mast is built with 60% high M40J modulus and is therefore suitable for freeride, freesurf, surffoil, pumping, supfoil… You will feel a clear difference with the Alu S-foil, in terms of glide, start and precision at a more affordable price. In comparison, you will save 15% less drag compared to the Aluminium S-foil.

Foil Elite 16mm | 85cm

In short The two SROKA carbon masts are quality products, which guarantee you a new wingfoil experience. The choice between 14mm and 16mm depends on your style and preference.

If you’re looking for glide and speed, go for the Elite 14mm.

If you prefer lightness and versatility, choose the 16mm.

Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed by the sensations your SROKA carbon mast will give you.

How to choose your fuselage?

Aluminum Fuselage: Enjoy Carbon Glide at a Soft Price

“Do you dream of sliding carbon masts but your budget is limited? Opt for our solid and reliable aluminum fuselage. It’s the perfect choice to discover carbon foils without breaking the bank.

Our aluminium fuselage is versatile: it fits our carbon masts and all our SROKA fins and stabilizers. It has the same shape as the Elite Carbon fuselage and it even offers a better glide than the aluminum fuselage of the S-foil range, thanks to a 10% reduction in drag at the mast/fuselage junction. It is suitable for all levels of practice.

In short, the aluminum fuselage allows you to:

  • Glide with the fluidity of carbon masts, without breaking your budget.
  • Enjoy sturdy, durable construction for versatile use.
  • Combine our SROKA carbon masts, fins and stabilizers to your liking.
  • Benefit from an improved profile for optimal performance, adapted to all levels of practice.”

Elite Carbon Fuselage: Carbon Performance Excellence

On the other hand, if you are a seasoned glider, looking for maximum performance and intense sensations and lightness, our Elite Carbon fuselage is the ideal choice. Sporting a high-end quality (built in 100% High Modulus for the Elite range) it is therefore designed for experienced riders who demand exceptional responsiveness and handling.

The Elite Carbon fuselage, compatible with our carbon masts as well as all our SROKA fins and stabilizers, stands out for its rigidity and lightness, which reduces inertia in movement. Able to offer you an unprecedented gliding experience, it weighs only 700 grams, making it a light and dynamic option.

Choosing the Elite Carbon fuselage means opting for:

  • Industry-leading performance thanks to the responsiveness and handling offered by carbon.
  • A lighter and stiffer construction for exceptional gliding sensations.
  • Full compatibility with our SROKA carbon masts, fins and stabilizers.
  • An option that doesn’t require rinsing after each session.

In the end, whether you choose the aluminium fuselage for its value for money or the Elite Carbon fuselage for its performance, you get the same exceptional gliding sensation in both cases.

Make your choice according to your needs, your level of practice and your desires, and make the most of your skiing experience with SROKA.

How to choose your front foil kite

The shape of a front wing is characterized by its length (wingspan), chord (the distance between the leading and trailing edges), thickness, and profile. The ratio of the span to the chord gives a measurement called the aspect ratio.

Generally speaking, the higher the aspect ratio, the larger the wingspan and the fewer chords the kite. At SROKA, this range is called HA for High Aspect ratio)On the other hand, the more generous the string, the smaller the span and the lower the aspect ratio.

A distinction must be made between low aspects ratio and medium-aspect ratio. The aspect ratio influences the foil’s radius of curvature, its ease of starting early, its ability to control itself in strong winds and its ability to glide.

For more information, take a look at this article.

At SROKA, we have not developed a wing with a low Aspect Ratio. All our beginner ranges, we have an AR.6 aspect ratio which is a medium aspect ratio.

Its moderate wingspan provides good glide, with excellent performance, maneuverability in surfing and ease of beginners. It’s the perfect compromise to evolve easily.

The Classic range for beginners is available in three sizes: 2000 cm2, 1750 cm2 and 1500 cm2.

The Control range is also a medium aspect ratio, but with faster profiles, thinner thicknesses that will guarantee you more speeds, glide and foil responsiveness. This range is for people who want an easy foil that can be controlled at any point of sail. It’s the perfect range for waves, free riding or anyone who isn’t looking for absolute Vmax.

It’s the perfect balance of handling, control and speed.

This range starts with the 1250 cm2, 950 cm2 and soon we will have the 820 and the 680 cm2 Control.

The HA range is defined by a high aspect ratio. The aspect ratio varies depending on the wing sizes. The 2000HA will have an AR aspect ratio of 9.8 which will allow you to glide with the least effort and the 670 cm2 will have an AR aspect ratio of 7.3 in order to reduce drag and accelerate more strongly.

The smaller you go, the more efficient and faster the front fenders will be while maintaining outstanding stability and accessibility.

How to choose your stabilizer

The stabilizer, also known as the rear fin, is a key element in stabilizing the foil. The bigger the stabilizer, the more stable the foil will be, but it also means that there will be more drag and therefore you will go slower. On the other hand, a smaller stabilizer will stabilize the whole thing less but will offer much more glide, because less drag and can also allow you to go faster. At Sroka, there are four types of stabilizers available: the 300cm², the easiest in the range, perfect for beginners or riders with large front fins; the 290 HA which will provide more stability, especially in pumping, but it will be less easy to use for beginners; the 240 cm², a compromise between stability and speed, adaptable with all the front fins, ideal for light wind and for people looking for comfort and speed while sailing; and the 180 cm², a speed weapon, with its ultra-thin profile, it will allow you to exceed your speed limits.

We have a small range of stabilizers because it is important to remember that the use of the adjustment wedges (to change the angle of the stabilizer) will allow you to adapt it even better to your sailing style and your size. This also reduces the number of stabilizers and thus meets all needs. For more information on how to adjust the outriggers with the corner wedges, you can click on this link.

We also have a range of foils in Aluminum. All our front fins are compatible with both ranges.

The choice of a carbon foil or an aluminium foil will be determined by the price and the level of performance. An aluminum mast will be thicker and generate more drag but will be very rigid. A carbon mast from the Elite range will be 30% thinner so there will be 30% less drag. It will bring a little more manoeuvrability, more speed, more glide. It is a high-performance mast that will allow you to reach 30 knots of speed.

For more information on the difference between the two ranges, go to this article.

Do you want to practice fishing in a different and more playful way? Paddle boarding is the perfect solution for you! Imagine yourself gliding freely across the water, accessing fishing grounds that are inaccessible by boat or from the shore. Paddle boarding offers a unique experience for nature lovers and fishing enthusiasts.

But how do you choose the ideal paddle board for fishing? That’s what we’re going to find out together. Get ready to sail to a new fishing experience by choosing the paddle board that’s right for you!

Criteria for choosing a paddle board for fishing

Choosing the right paddle board for fishing can be a daunting task, especially if you’re new to it. However, there are a few key criteria that can help you make the right decision and find the perfect paddle board for you.

  • Length and width
  • Stability and manoeuvrability
  • Materials and robustness
  • Accessories

The length and width of the paddle are the first criteria to be taken into account. Longer paddles offer better speed and a greater ability to stay on course, while shorter paddles offer better maneuverability and responsiveness. When it comes to width, wider paddles provide better stability, which is important for fishing. However, they are also heavier and more difficult to maneuver. When fishing on a paddle, we advise you to focus on stability over speed in order to maximize stability on the board.

Which paddle board to choose for fishing

Fiberglass or carbon paddle boards are lighter and offer better performance, but they are also more expensive. Plastic paddle boards are more affordable, but they can be less sturdy. It’s important to find the right balance between cost and quality of equipment to ensure that your paddle will live up to your expectations and last a long time.

Finally, the accessories included with the paddle are also an important criterion to take into account. Handles, and tackle racks can all enhance your fishing experience by allowing you to have everything you need at your fingertips. By taking these key criteria into account, you can find the perfect paddle board for your paddle fishing experience.

The different types of paddle boards for fishing

There are different types of paddle boards for fishing, each with its advantages and disadvantages. Here are the different types of paddle boards for fishing:

  1. Rigid paddle boards are often made of fiberglass or carbon, making them lighter and stiffer than inflatable or folding paddle boards. They offer excellent stability and maneuverability for navigating fishing areas, but can be more difficult to transport and store due to their size and weight.
  2. Inflatable paddle boards are easy to transport and store, as they can be deflated and stored in a carry bag. They are mostly made from strong materials like PVC and offer good stability and maneuverability for fishing in calm waters. However, their weight can be a disadvantage for fishing in rough waters.
  3. Folding paddles are similar to rigid paddles in terms of stability and maneuverability, but they can be folded into multiple sections for easy transport and storage. They are made from strong materials like plastic or carbon.

See inflatable paddle boards for fishing

Each of these types of paddle boards offers pros and cons depending on your fishing needs. It’s important to consider your level of experience, fishing preferences, and transportation and storage needs when choosing the paddle board that best suits your fishing habits.

Paddle boarding is a good way to practice fishing in a fun and outdoor way. It offers a unique and fun experience for fishing enthusiasts who want to explore new fishing spots and discover fabulous landscapes. It is important to take these criteria into account when choosing the right paddle board for fishing. Whether you choose a rigid, inflatable, or folding paddle board, the key is to find one that best suits your fishing style and personal preferences. So, if you’re ready to explore new horizons while fishing on a paddle, take the time to choose your equipment carefully and enjoy every moment spent on the water!

Whatever your age, morphology or physical condition, paddle boarding is an activity accessible to all! Beginners and experienced skiers alike can take full advantage of this aquatic discipline. The only physical condition required is to be able to swim. Don’t panic about mastery; The balance needed to stand upright on the board is learned over time.

For those who want to strengthen their physical and mental condition, paddle boarding is also an excellent choice. In addition to strengthening muscles, improving balance, coordination and concentration, paddle boarding also offers an experience of relaxation and well-being in the middle of nature, far from the stress of everyday life.

Paddle boarding prerequisites and tips for choosing the right equipment for beginners

Like any water activity, a few prerequisites are necessary before taking to the water:

First of all, it is essential to know how to swim to practice SUP. Although the paddle board is stable and easy to maneuver, it is not impossible to fall into the water. Knowing how to swim allows you to get back on the board in the event of a fall and stay safe on the water.

Then, in terms of equipment, a paddle board, a paddle and a leash – a tether to connect the board to your ankle, are necessary to get started in paddle boarding. We also recommend wearing a life jacket for added safety, especially if you are a beginner or if you are operating in wind or strong current conditions.

Practice inflatable paddle boarding at any level

Different types of paddle for all profiles

A popular water activity, SUP is available in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit everyone’s needs and desires. Whether you’re a beginner, an intermediate or an expert, you’ll always find a board that suits your level of practice and body type.

  • For beginners, we recommend a wide board. This type of board offers better stability and makes it easier to learn basic movements. For kids, shorter, lighter boards are also available to help them learn how to stand on a board more easily. The “All around” type boards are perfectly suited for beginners or those who want to practice in calm waters. The stiffness of the board, and therefore, the quality of the board, will influence your progress.

  • For intermediate riders, opt for faster, narrower, and more streamlined boards for an exciting and dynamic experience. These boards often have features that promote gliding, such as more streamlined shapes, with a pointed nose and longer fins. Touring boards are an excellent choice for these more advanced practices. They will also allow you to be more efficient in your train. So you’ll have to make less effort to cover more distance.

  • The more experienced will need more efficient and longer boards. They will be perfectly suited to explore the most extreme environments, to engage in more technical maneuvers to work your cardio even more effectively.

Safety rules to follow for safe paddle boarding

To fully enjoy paddle boarding with complete peace of mind, safety is key. Here are some tips to consider to ensure a safe practice:

Paddle boarding equipment

  • Wear a life jacket if you don’t feel comfortable in the water.
  • Use a leash to keep the board close in case of a fall.
  • Check weather conditions and forecasts for wind, thunderstorms, rain, waves, and currents before venturing out on the water. Make sure the conditions are favourable for paddle boarding.
  • Avoid high-risk areas such as swimming areas, areas with a lot of current, boating areas, fishing areas or areas where visibility is limited.
  • Practice in a group, especially if you are a beginner, or if you are navigating in unfamiliar areas.
  • Know your limits and don’t take unnecessary risks.
  • Check the weather forecast before you go.  If you are a beginner, for example, start on calm waters and work your way up slowly.

At Sroka, we offer a wide range of paddle boards so that everyone can find the model that best suits their practice. Whether you want to go for a ride, tour, run or paddle surf, we have the right paddle for you. To find out more about the usefulness of the different boards, find our article Which inflatable paddle to choose according to the practice. Don’t wait any longer to learn paddle boarding and enjoy a pleasant experience on the water while taking care of your body.

In short

SUP is first and foremost a fun and friendly sport accessible to all. All you have to do is learn the practice to enjoy the benefits of this nautical discipline. Regular practice helps improve your strength, endurance, and flexibility. Regardless of your experience, it is still important to choose a board that suits your body type and your level of practice. Once you’ve chosen your board, you’ll be able to hit the water with peace of mind.

In addition, paddle boarding is a safe and low-risk sport if you practice on a flat and calm body of water. Unlike other water sports, paddle boarding is gentle on the joints and does not cause bodily trauma.

Increasingly popular with water sports enthusiasts, the inflatable paddle board has many advantages. Lightweight, strong and easy to transport, it is made for those who want to enjoy the water without constraints. However, with the multitude of models available, it can sometimes be difficult to know which inflatable paddle board to choose according to your needs and practice. In this article we offer you a selection of inflatable paddles adapted to different types of practice, in order to help you make the right choice according to your expectations.

How to choose your inflatable paddle board?

Start by identifying your level

First of all, it is essential to determine your level of inflatable paddle boarding and your expectations. Indeed, depending on whether you simply want to go for a walk with your friends, go hiking or surfing, the choice of your paddle will be different. Your level also plays a role in your choice of paddle board. If you are a beginner, you will opt for a stable, versatile and less technical paddle. On the other hand, if you are an experienced paddler or want to improve your skills, you will have to choose an inflatable paddle board focused on performance.

The Different Shapes of Inflatable Paddle Boards

  • “All-round” or “versatile” boards : they are ideal for beginners or occasional riders because of their stability. They are suitable for any type of practice. However, these boards may be less interesting for surfing or hiking.
  • Touring or touring boards : these boards are thinner and longer than all-round boards. This way they are faster and more manoeuvrable. These boards are ideal for rides and hikes over longer distances. This is the case, for example, with the Alpha range , which offers exceptional glide. Unlike all-round boards, these will be less stable for beginners.
  • Inflatable “surf” paddle boards : surf-type boards, such as the Wave 9’5, have a shape that is closer to a rigid surfboard. The front of the board is slimmer and the tail narrower. Thanks to this shape, these inflatable paddles are more manoeuvrable and easier to maneuver.

Which inflatable paddle board to choose according to the different practices?

Versatile SUPs for cruising

  • Ocean Walker : Ideal for learning to paddle easily at the best price, this lightweight all-round board adapts to all bodies of water. Its rounded nose and square tail easily forgive errors of balance. As you can see, the Ocean Walker is the paddle to choose for beginners who want to walk around with ease and at a lower cost.

  • Easy : The Easy range offers the best compromise between accessibility, stability and glide. The Easy 10′ and 10’6 are perfect for fun and outings with family or friends. 1. Choose the right equipment : when you want to practice windsurfing with an inflatable paddle board, you need a board with a mast foot insert and a central fin. You will also need a sail, a mast and a boom. For added safety, you can opt for a life jacket.

Wing Foil and Wind Foil are two activities that look very similar at first glance, so how do you choose? Both sports involve flying over the water with a foil, using a board and a wing which allows you to catch the wind. If in both cases the sensations are magical, after reading this article you will know which water activity will suit you best.

Choisir entre wing foil et wind surf foil, quelles différences

How does a wind foil work?

Windfoil is a fascinating discipline derived from windsurfing, just like kite surf foil or stand-up foil, offering board sports enthusiasts new perspectives and unparalleled sensations. This water sport is based on the ability to navigate on water using the force of the wind, but with a particularity: windfoil allows you to fly above the water rather than simply glide on its surface. The way windfoil works is therefore similar to that of windsurfing, with practically identical manoeuvres, but the sensations experienced are quite different and incredibly exciting.

How to do wind foiling?

To windfoil, here are some key steps to follow:

  1. Choose the right equipment: Opt for a windsurfboard suitable for windfoil with a foil housing, as well as a specific sail and foil.
  2. Learn the basics of windsurfing: Master harness navigation techniques, tacking maneuvers, and sail adjustments.
  3. Mount the foil on the board: Install the foil correctly in the housing of the board, making sure it is stable.
  4. Start in the right conditions: Choose suitable weather conditions and spots for beginners.
  5. Position yourself correctly: Place your feet in the straps of the board and keep a balanced position.
  6. Generate Power: Use the force of the wind to generate power in the sail and allow the foil to take off.
  7. Maintain your balance: Focus on maintaining balance and adjust your footing according to the movements of the foil.
  8. Practice regularly: Regular practice is essential to progress in windfoil and develop your technique.

Remember to sail within the limits of your skills and take into account the weather conditions. With perseverance, you will be able to enjoy the pleasures of windfoil and enjoy the unique sensation of flying above the water.

Choosing the Wind Surf Foil for Windsurfing Enthusiasts

The Wind Foil is a very popular activity for windsurfers. Indeed, the Windfoil can be seen as the Windsurfing Extension (Windsurfing). Quite simply, it is a matter of add a foil under a wind surf board. Thanks to the foil, drag is reduced and the sensations of gliding are multiplied. The Sensations of speed are simply impressive, even in light winds.
The disadvantage of Windfoil compared to wingfoiling is that it is not possible to stop dead in your tracks. Windsurf Foil has more inertia, so it is necessary to predict its trajectories more. Finally, the equipment is heavier and takes up more space than wingfoil equipment.

The advantages of Wind Foil for Windsurfers:

  • Learning to Wind Foil is very fast. The board is longer and bulkier, so it will provide more stability.
  • Windfoil is easy to master. Thanks to the basics of windsurfing, it is easy to find your bearings and progress quickly.
  • In Wind Surf Foil there is no need for a large sail area. So you’ll be able to keep your Wind Surf quiver!

Choosing Wing Foil, the new discipline with many advantages

Wingfoil is a new discipline that mixes windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing, surf foil and sup foil. Unlike wind foil and wind surf foil, in wingfoil the wing wing is not attached to the board. This allows for greater freedom, for example you can switch from wing foil to surf foil in one movement. The wingfoil wing can be neutralized very quickly.
What stands out in this new activity is the simplicity of the equipment, its lightness, its space saving and its ease of operation. Wingfoil offers freedom and versatility, all with lightweight gear.

Who can wing foil?

Wing foil is a sport accessible to all levels, from water sports beginners to experts. Whether you like surfing, kitesurfing or stand up paddleboarding, you can discover wing foil. However, it is advisable to have a good balance and physical condition to fully enjoy this sport. Whether you’re curious about new sensations or an experienced rider looking for a new challenge, wing foil offers a unique experience on the water.

What is the wind speed for wing foiling?

What is the wind speed for wing foiling?

The ideal wind speed for wing foiling varies according to the preferences and experience level of each rider. For beginners, a minimum of 15 knots of wind is recommended to ensure an efficient take-off and enjoy sufficient lift, thus guaranteeing optimal sailing conditions. With the gain of experience, it is possible to sail in lighter winds. However, for more intense sensations and the possibility of making jumps, a wind range between 15 and 20 knots is recommended.

The advantages of wingfoiling:

  1. Easy to transport and store : the material does not take up much space and can therefore be stored in small spaces. Plus, you can easily carry it around, and if you opt for an inflatable wingfoil, all your gear fits in a backpack!
  2. Wing foil is the gateway to many other sports : SUPfoil, Surffoil, Wakefoil, Downwind, Pumping…
  3. Possibility to sail everywhere, there are no massive restrictions as can be seen in kitesurfing for example. Make all the spots your new playground!
  4. The hardware is simple and easy to install. Unlike kitesurfing, wingfoil requires very little space on the beach to assemble your equipment. In addition, the installation is very fast.
  5. The wingfoil brings maximum freedom : as the kite is not attached to the board, you can manipulate it as you wish. You can start the session in wingfoil, go through freesurfing, downwinding and pumping between waves to reconnect them without limit.

Best Wing Foil Packs for Beginners

In summary, what to choose between Wing foil and Wind foil?

Wingfoil and Windfoil are two different sports that use foiling. As for Wing Foil, it’s a more accessible practice. It is a light and practical sport that costs less overall than Wind Foil. Wingfoil will also make it easier for you to exploit many spots that would not be of interest to windfoil. Wind Surf Foil will be easier to learn for snowboarders. In light winds, the Windfoil will be more effective than the Wingfoil. In addition, by progressing in Wind Foil it will be easier for you to learn Wing Foil afterwards. On the other hand, wingfoil will not make learning to windfoil any easier.

Which board to choose when you are a beginner in wingfoil ? Wing foil is a sport that has become more and more practiced over the years and it’s easy to see why!
This magical sensation of flying over the water according to our desires has no equal. However, when it comes time to get started, it is possible to be somewhat lost in the extent of the offers.
We explain how to make the best choice for your wing foil board according to your desires and your size.

How to choose your wingfoil pack for beginners

For the purchase of your first wing foil board, we advise you to opt for a wingfoil pack. This way, you’ll have all the equipment you need to get started at a discounted price. This is the best option when you want to start wingfoiling!
Find our advice on how to choose the right wing foil pack.

Step 1: What volume of board should you choose when you are a beginner in wingfoil?

In wingfoil, the volume of the board is a major characteristic that is often mentioned, it is always indicated in liters. When you are a beginner in wingfoil, it is imperative to choose a volume of board that is greater than its weight for you to float. But how much more?

  • Your weight + 10 = minimum volume to float
  • Your weight + 30 = comfortable volume to start with ( + 15 / 20 for sporty people or people already practicing a water sport)

Example : 70kg + 30 = 100 liters, this will allow a beginner to be really comfortable. For sports and/or water sports practitioners such as surfing or windsurfing, it will be wiser to add only 15 or 20. This will be: 70kg + 20 = 90 liters.
However, if you want to be reassured about your choice of board, you can contact us to discuss it. We will be happy to help you make the best possible choice.

STIFF BOARDS

Which volume of board to choose for a wingfoil beginner

INFLATABLE BOARDS

Step 2: Wingfoil beginner, choose the right board size

When choosing your first wingfoil board, you’re going to have to choose the size of your board. At Sroka the sizes of our boards are designed to offer you maximum performance. Our boards are therefore provided with the optimal size according to their volume. In this way, our boards allow the rider to have an easy-to-handle board with the best possible glide.
To choose, you will be able to rely only on the volume of the board because you are sure that the size will be suitable.

Be careful because this is not the case for all brands. A board that is too small in relation to its volume will be thicker and consequently have less glide, directional instability and will require more power.

Shapes to avoid:

  • A board that is too long will have a lot of inertia and will be unpleasant to pump
  • A board that is too stocky will have difficulty taking off, it will lack glide and its rails will tend to touch the water
  • A board that is too narrow will be very unstable laterally
  • Finally, a board that is too thick will have a “plug” effect on the water and will be unstable

These different shapes are to be preferred for specific practices once your tastes and your level have been confirmed.

At Sroka we have calculated the perfect ratios for all our rigid and inflatable wingfoil boards, impossible to find a bad shape! Everything has been thought out so that our boards have an optimal shape that offers superb gliding sensations and great performance whatever your level.

Step 3: Choosing an inflatable or rigid board for a wingfoil beginner?

At Sroka, we want to offer you the product that will best meet your needs. Our goal is not to seek the best profitability but to allow you to choose the product that will offer you maximum pleasure on the water. It is your needs and desires that will determine which type of board is best for you.

How to choose your beginner wingfoil pack

Inflatable board, for whom?

Inflatable boards will delight people who want to sail from time to time, don’t have a lot of space and therefore want a board that is easy to transport.
If you regularly go on holiday or live in the Paris region, you need space-saving equipment. The inflatable is made for you!

How to choose your wing foil board

Rigid board, for whom?

Rigid boards are ideal for people who want to sail very regularly and therefore do not have a problem with space.
If you want to progress faster by going to the water often, rigid boards are the best choice.

Note : well-built inflatable boards, coupled with a quality sail and foil, are a very good alternative, quite credible. We tend to think that an inflatable board doesn’t allow you to progress, but that’s not true! With a good inflatable board, like our Sroka Air, you will be able to have maximum fun and achieve great performance throughout your sessions.

Step 4: The Importance of Construction and Materials Used for Your Board

How to choose your wingfoil board for beginners

When buying a board, it is essential to pay attention to the construction technology as well as the materials used. Indeed, not all brands have the same quality standards, which is why it is important to pay attention to them. A very good quality board will not only be more durable, but it will also offer you better performance, a better glide and a great feel.

The best construction technology for a wingfoil board is the PVC Sandwich Foam. This is what we use on all our wing foil boards in order to guarantee you the best level of quality (and therefore better performance)!
Sroka Company has always been committed to providing quality, durable, strong , and high-performance equipment. It is with this in mind that all of our products are designed. What we want above all is that each rider can fully enjoy the sensations offered by wingfoil thanks to an ultra qualitative equipment. That’s why we offer quality equipment that is perfectly designed for superb performance and maximum fun, whether you are a beginner or an expert.

Whether it’s for a first purchase, for a gift or simply because you want a change, it is sometimes difficult to choose your stand up paddle. There are many offers and so are their features.
You’re probably wondering what would be the better choice between an inflatable paddle board and a rigid paddle board and what their differences really are. Both have advantages and disadvantages, here is a comparison to help you choose your SROKA stand up paddle.

Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board

Transport

The first point of comparison, and not the least, is at the level of transport. There’s no doubt about it, carrying an inflatable SUP is much more convenient. This is explained, of course, by the fact that it can deflate and therefore bend. This way, once stored in its carry bag, it’s super easy to bring it to your favorite spots.
Let’s take the case of public transport. It is much easier to take them with your paddle in a backpack than with your board under your arm.

bag for inflatable stand up paddle

Robustness

Rigid SUPs appear stronger at first glance because of their material. This is not the case, from a solidity point of view, it is the inflatable paddles that win hands down. Inflatable SUPs are not afraid of shocks, unlike rigid SUPs. So don’t panic if he gets hit with a paddle or rubs against a rock.
This solidity can be explained by the construction of SUPs: the materials used, the construction technique, the labor (handmade or not, time spent on the design,…).

At Sroka we build all our paddles with high-end PVC and glue. These are the same materials used for professional RIB boats. In order to ensure the paddles have extra durability, we use fusion technology for the deck and hull. Finally, our paddles have 3 to 4 layers of PVC on the rails (depending on the model) to further reinforce the paddle. Enough to guarantee our SUPs a solidity at all times!

Differences Between Rigid Paddle Board and Inflatable Paddle Board

Performance

To begin with, in general, rigid paddles are a little more stable, for the same size, than inflatable paddles. In addition, rigid SUPs will also perform better in the waves. This can be explained by their elaborate shape which gives them more grip. Indeed, on a rigid paddle the rail can be worked (the edges of the board), which is not possible on an inflatable paddle.
As far as gliding is concerned, it is a little better on rigid paddles. However, with a well-constructed inflatable board you can almost match the glide of a rigid board. Let’s say that inflatable paddle boarding offers very high performance in 80% of the practices considered. However, if you want to move towards high-level paddle boarding, rigid SUP is recommended.

Usage

Inflatable paddle boards have the advantage of being easy and practical to use. These are paddles that can be intended for family use. This is because they can be used by all members of the family. One of the big advantages of the inflatable paddle board is its use by children. They can climb on them without any problem, without too much risk of hurting themselves in the event of a fall, unlike a rigid paddle. There is also no need to worry about children damaging the inflatable paddle board thanks to its sturdiness. In addition, during a family outing the car is often well filled, an inflatable paddle will be much easier to fit between belongings.

Differences Between Rigid Paddle Board and Inflatable Paddle Board

Storage

As for storage, it obviously depends on how much space you have. It is obvious that with a large garage or shed, you will find a place for your rigid paddle. Nevertheless, from a practical point of view, the inflatable SUP is still much easier to store. Indeed, since it can be stored in a backpack, it does not take up much space. For those who don’t want to bother deflating their paddle after each session, it is possible to store it inflated.

Differences Between Inflatable Paddle Board and Rigid Paddle

Price

As a general rule, an inflatable stand-up paddle board will be cheaper than a rigid SUP.
Let’s take the case of a high-end paddle: for a rigid paddle it costs around €2,000 while a high-end inflatable paddle is worth between €600 and €999. This is the case of Alpha paddles, top-of-the-range SUPs that offer exceptional gliding performance.

Discover the high-end Alpha range

In short

There are many differences between an inflatable paddle board and a rigid paddle board. We can still conclude that 80% of the time an inflatable paddle board is the most recommended option. Indeed, it is clear that it is the best option if you want a SUP that does everything (leisure, hiking, afternoons at the beach, yoga..). A good quality inflatable paddle board will undoubtedly offer you very good performance and excellent durability, while remaining at an affordable price. Not to mention the transport and storage which is ultra convenient and easy.
However, if the goal is to compete or achieve great performance in the waves, a high-end rigid SUP will be preferred.

After several dozen hours of testing and many prototypes, we are delighted to present our brand new foil: the S-Foil 950 HA Speed ! Composed of the new 950 High Aspect Speed fin and the new
240 stabilizer
, this combo will not leave you indifferent. We have taken the time to study all the variables in order to offer you a high-performance and quality plug and play product.

https://youtu.be/rz6awXI3A1g

How does this new foil perform?

Our aim was to develop an ultra-fast, very stable foil with unrivalled gliding sensations. It’s a foil with which you can ride big swell trains without limits. Whether it’s Wingfoil, Surf foil, Kitefoil or SUPfoil, the 950 HA Speed will become your new favorite foil fin.

The S-Foil HA 950 Speed is also extremely responsive. Thanks to its 100% carbon structure (non-foamed), this fin is unbreakable. It provides maximum rigidity and therefore responsiveness. What we are looking for above all is precision on the downforce in order to have maximum control in our turns.

It is a very easy to access foil. You won’t have any trouble taming it because it’s plug and play. We’ve developed it so that you don’t have to make any additional adjustments. You could say that the foil is “self-adjusted”.

Features of the S-Foil 950 HA Speed

New foil

High ratio aspect : the high aspect ratio of the wing gives it an unrivalled finesse of flight. It will allow you to be very fast and enjoy an excellent glide.

Low relative thickness : thanks to its low thickness, the fin will give you an exceptional glide and nice speed peaks beyond 26 knots.

The rope : the 14.5 cm rope gives enough tolerance to the foil for an easy and accessible start on schedule.

Refined tips : the tips of the fin have been worked so that they are refined enough to allow for greater maneuverability.

New foil

The new 240 (cm2) stabilizer has also been completely designed for optimal performance. The wingspan is reduced and the chord and thickness have also been decreased. This new stabilizer is therefore more playful and more manoeuvrable (compatible with all foils of the classic and high aspect Sroka range).

The glide of flight of the S-Foil 950 HA Speed

The new S-Foil 950 HA Speed has excellent flight finesse, but what is foil flight finesse?
You could compare it with a glider. Glide of flight is the distance that the glider will travel without any propulsion effect. In foiling it’s the same principle, it’s the distance that the foil will travel once launched, without giving it any momentum.

A foil fin with a high ratio will have a greater glide of flight. This can be explained by the significant lengthening of the wing, with a wingspan of 85 cm for the 950. The higher the aspect ratio, the greater the glide of flight but on the other hand you will lose maneuverability.
So it’s up to you how you want to browse. With a high aspect ratio you will make less effort to cover the same distance, your foil will accelerate longer but it will be less maneuverable and more technical.

To regain maneuverability, while keeping the same fin, there are several options: See options
For those looking for more handling and accessibility, we are in the process of developing a classic 950. It will give you control and maneuverability whatever your level.

Do you dream of flying over the swell with a stroke of the paddle? SUPFoil is a discipline that will allow you to enjoy the first sensations of foiling. Indeed, if you have mastered the Stand-Up Paddle and you want to start foiling, we advise you to start with the SUP-Foil. This will help you to start discovering the foil, to understand and analyze how it works. You will quickly feel the incredible sensations of gliding and speed that this water sport provides. The feeling of freedom and escape when you fly over the water. This will open up the opportunity to discover Downwind in SupFoil over tens of kilometers , withthe only sound being the breath of the wind, it’s just exceptional. Here are our tips for choosing the right SUP Foil.

What is SUP foil?

The practice of SUPFoiling consists of flying with a Stand-Up-Paddle board mounted on a Foil, and using a paddle to gain speed to take off. The volume of the board allows you to start directly standing while paddling with the paddle to catch a wave.

How do I get started with SupFoil?

First of all, starting out in foiling requires a minimum of technique and mastery. That’s why it’s advisable to start foiling with SUPFoiling. Indeed, the paddle board is bulkier and more stable than a kitefoil or surf foil board. Although this practice is accessible to everyone, we advise you to have a good foundation in SUPsurfing. It’s complicated to start directly with a foil. This practice requires a lot of accuracy, especially for the positioning of its center of gravity. In fact, it can be dangerous if you don’t do the right thing.

If you want to start alone, we advise you to choose very soft waves that break little, with little power. Also avoid crowded surfer spots to avoid conflicts on the water. Ideally, it is interesting to take lessons to learn the practice, especially to overcome the apprehension of falling on the fin and to understand the mastery of the flight height.

For more information, we have taken the time to give you all our advice on how to choose the right spot when you are just starting out in SUPFoiling in this article.

How to pump in surf foil?

Surf foil pumping is a technique that consists of making the board fly on the water using the strength of the legs and the movement of the foil. This makes it possible to take advantage of the potential of the foil, connect several waves and glide on almost invisible waves. Here are some tips for learning how to pump in surf foil:

  1. Get out of the wave at the right time, preferably when it’s flat or before it breaks.
  2. Make a wide, smooth turn to maintain maximum speed and inertia.
  3. Look far ahead, towards the wave or target you are aiming for.
  4. Coordinate your arms and legs to give the foil a boost and make it go up and down.
  5. Lighten up on the board and let the foil accelerate on its own.
  6. Alternate phases of pressure and lightening on both legs.

For more detailed explanations, find our article dedicated to pumping in surf foil to learn the movement step by step.

How to choose the right Sup Foil pack?

SUPFoiling offers many advantages and in particular the fact that you can have fun in many conditions, even with 50cm of wave. Downwinding is even faster with this practice. It’s also a complete and interesting sport for cardio: with control, you go back up to the peak by pumping, you catch the waves, then you go back up by pumping, endlessly!

Are you looking for the SUPFoil equipment that will perfectly match your needs? SROKA Company gives you all its advice through this article. Our goal: to democratize the practice, by designing equipment that we enjoy using ourselves, all at an affordable price. (while building the boards in France)

All our answers to the questions you may have when choosing your Foil!

How does a Foil work?

The operation of a foil is comparable to that of an “underwater” aircraft thanks to fluid dynamics. The speed of travel creates a lift force on the front wing and allows the foil to take off. The higher the speed of the foil, the more the foil will be “pulled” upwards. Therefore, you need to put more pressure on the front leg, or decrease the size of the front wing. The rear fin, also known as the “stabilizer”, is used to balance the lift of the front wing. Be aware that your weight (center of gravity) will act as a balancer between these two fins.

If you want to know more about how a foil works, check out our article How does a surf foil work?

COMPOSITION OF A FOIL

The Foil is composed of a mast, attached perpendicular to the board and fuselage and two front and rear wings. The front fin is the largest, with a domed top, with a rounded leading edge, which quickly gains thickness and then tapers to a thinner trailing edge. At the rear is the stabilizer, which is similar in shape to the front fin (but inverted), with a reduced surface area and a different profile. The size of the stabilizer determines the maneuverability and speed of your foil.

How to choose your foil?

In the practice of SUPFoil, a Low Aspect fin will rotate very fast, but will be slower and less efficient than a Medium Aspect. Indeed, the latter will offer you the advantages of a fast foil, while having a lot of tolerance and forgiving of all mistakes. As for the High Aspect models, these can be interesting, as they are more efficient at pumping.

Fins:

  • A classic fin type S Foil Classic SROKA (Mid Aspect) will be accessible for all levels and very versatile. Beginners looking for lift and stability will head for the 1750 (XL) or 1500 (S). These two fins will allow you to sail in SUP Foil, Wake Foil or Wingfoil. It will be suitable for people around 80kg. The 1250 (M) will be faster and more manoeuvrable due to its smaller size.
  • A High Aspect fin will give you performance, but will require a little more technique. For those who want to take your SUP foil to the next level, the HA 1190 L (Lift) will provide lift and ease of gliding.

Choosing your front foil fin

As for the stabilizer, the S-Foil is the best compromise between maneuverability and stability. We are working to offer you a wider range, and make your Foil more playful. (Available in 2021)

Everything you need to know about the differences between a High Aspect and Low Aspect foil

The mast:

The smaller your mast, the easier it will be to get started. Nevertheless, a longer mast will be more scalable over time.

  • A 70cm mast is ideal for beginners in learning to foil. Its relatively short size will be more forgiving of all your positioning mistakes, and falls will be much less impressive.
  • An 80cm mast is extremely versatile. It will allow you to evolve, pump, surf, and maneuver more efficiently.

Guide to choosing the length of the wingfoil mast

The fuselage:

Fuselages for the Foil Sroka

The length of the fuselage impacts the maneuverability of the foil:

    • A standard fuselage will provide more stability, the pumping will be less physical but less maneuverable.
    • An average fuselage will rotate better, be more maneuverable but will require more frequency to pumping.
    • A short fuselage will be very manoeuvrable but will require even more frequency from the pumping.

Which foil for SUP foil?

  • If you want to surf waves of less than 90 cm, we recommend S-foil HA 1190 Lift, it will be ideal because it offers good lift and stability. If you want to gain speed or surf bigger waves, the S-Foil HA 1190 Speed is the one for you.
  • The other option is to opt for the S-Foil 1250 which will be the right compromise between manoeuvrability, lift and responsiveness. The 1250 will be more manoeuvrable in corners and to carve effortlessly thanks to its shape mind aspect (more compact).
  • Finally, if you want to enjoy small waves with a minimum of effort, the S-foil HA 1350 Lift is the foil you need because it allows you to pump very easily and fly for a long time, its glide seems endless.

How to choose your SUP-Foil board?

Our rigid SKY RIDER boards (7’8, 6’3, 5’8 and 5’5) are made in Brittany in order to implement the best of French know-how. How to choose your SUP-Foil paddle?

MATERIAL CHOICE:

  • Carbon paddles are the best paddles on the market in terms of quality. Unlike aluminum paddles that are prone to breakage in this type of practice, carbon paddles are both light and strong. The flexibility of a carbon paddle is more responsive than that of an aluminum paddle (depending on the percentage of carbon: 100% carbon and 50% carbon, they will be more or less rigid). For the practice of SUPFoil, or a sporty SUP ride, we recommend a 50% carbon paddle for an optimal paddle, with the best quality-price-performance ratio.spec of SROKA paddles

FIXED OR ADJUSTABLE PADDLE?

    • The fixed paddle from SROKA Company has been designed for optimal paddling, with a lighter weight than the 2 and 3 part paddles. As a result, nervousness is more interesting: you will have less energy loss while paddling than with an adjustable paddle.
    • The adjustable paddle from SROKA Company has the advantage of being versatile and being able to change the height according to the size of the rider and the practice. Be aware that the more parts you have (2 and 3 part paddles), the heavier your paddle will be. Another advantage is that they are undeniably easier to store and transport than fixed paddles.

    Fix and Adjustable Paddle

Which boards for surf foil?

If you’re looking for a high-performance, versatile, and durable foil surfboard, the Fast Flyer 4’6 is for you. This 38 L volume board will allow you to easily go on all waves, even the softest ones, thanks to its compact and rounded shape. Once in the air, you’ll appreciate its lightness, control, and responsiveness, whether you’re pumping, carving, or even jumping. Its double concave and smears will prevent you from losing speed when touching, while its concave bridge will offer you incomparable comfort and precision.

The Fast Flyer isn’t just a foil surfboard. It is also a multi-support board that will allow you to practice wing foil, kite foil or wake foil with the same pleasure. It has inserts for footstraps and a housing ideally positioned to fit all foils on the market. It will offer you the best compromise between lift and performance but also between manoeuvrability and stability.

Safety Tips:

The discipline of SUPFoiling can be dangerous, several precautions must be taken into account before launching.

Practitioners must:

  • Choose a spot that is deserted or with very few surfers around you.
  • Plan a spot where there is enough background (the longer your mast, the more depth it is necessary).
  • Choose a spot you know, to avoid the rocks.
  • When getting into the water, remember to position your foil upside down behind you and slide it on your back until there is enough depth to turn the board over and start paddling.
  • Look for soft and flat waves that roll out, these waves usually correspond to mid-tides. The ideal and fun waves in foil are the 40 cm waves up to 1m for the more experienced riders.
  • Do not hesitate to protect yourself by using a helmet, an impact jacket and any other mandatory or recommended safety equipment.

Inflatable SUP Foil Guide & Hard SUP Foil

In short…

Choosing the right SUP-Foil pack will determine the way you foil. Our advice is therefore to take into account:

  • The choice of foil: To start with, a classic medium-sized fin such as the Mid Aspect fin from SROKA (in 1750 for the largest sizes, 1500 under 85 kg, 1250 for a size of less than 70 kg) will be the most suitable. Are you familiar with SUPFoil and want to improve performance and technique? A
    High Aspect
foil with a 1190 L fin will allow you to reconnect the waves without difficulty while maximizing your speed.
  • Choosing the mast: Starting with a 70 cm mast will be easier. However, a standard mast (80 cm) will evolve with you for a longer period of time.
  • The choice of your board: rigid or inflatable, the larger the volume of your board, the more suitable it will be for beginners and larger riders. This type of model guarantees stability. Medium-sized models will be just as easy to handle, but will be more versatile and scalable in your progression. A board with a small volume will be light underfoot, easy to pump and will allow you to navigate with technique.
  • The choice of your paddle: carbon paddles will be the most suitable for the practice of SUPFoil, which is the perfect compromise between lightness and solidity.

Inflatable Board for Wing Foil

Vary the practices: our boards are also adapted to WingFoil!

Each of our boards is a model of versatility, so that you can fully explore all that foiling and its disciplines have to offer. Whether it’s Wing-Foil, Surf-Foil, SUP-Foil, Wind-Foil or Wake-Foil, our Sky Rider boards adapt to you.

The SROKA Air board will allow you to sail in SUP-Foil as well as in Wing-Foil, depending on your desires, the spot or the conditions. All you have to do is choose the volume that suits you.

When you’re just starting out in foiling, or when you want to evolve, it can be difficult to know which foil to go to. Low Aspect, Mid Aspect, High Aspect: what are the differences? Which foil to choose according to your level and practice? We explain everything to you in detail.

How to choose between a high-aspect foil and a low-aspect foil

Foil has revolutionized board sports. It allows you to fly over the swell, to move from one wave to another, partially or totally out of the water. It is accessible for all sizes, all levels, all conditions… Whether it’s with a wing, kite, surf, SUP board… Here are all the criteria to consider when deciding between a Low Aspect or High Aspect fin.

Understanding how a foil works

The Foil works like an underwater aircraft by generating a hydrodynamic lift force through the speed it acquires. Composed of a mast, a fuselage, a front and rear fin (the stabilizer), the foil allows the rider to glide on the water. The fins are arranged parallel to the board, and can be controlled simply by pressing the feet. The front fin has a domed shape on the top, and flatter on the bottom, which creates lift. The width of the fin, measured from the center of the leading edge to the center of the trailing edge, is called the “chord“. While the length of the winglet, measured from one end to the other, is called the “wingspan“, it is the same principle as in aeronautics.

What is the aspect ratio of a foil?

Before choosing between a foil with a high aspect ratio or a foil with a low aspect ratio, it is important to understand what the aspect ratio is. The ratio aspect of a foil is a mathematical ratio that describes the shape of the kite. It is the ratio of the wingspan (the distance between the two tips) to its chord (the distance between the leading edge and the trailing edge).

The higher the aspect ratio, the larger the wingspan in relation to its chord. This means that the wing is more elongated and narrower. Conversely, a low aspect ratio indicates a shorter and wider wing.

There are 3 categories of aspect ratio for a foil:

  • Low Aspect Ratio: These foils have a lot of rope and very little wingspan. They are good foils for beginners but they quickly saturate in speed because of their large rope.
  • Medium Aspect Ratio: It’s a compromise between a high aspect ratio foil and a low aspect ratio foil. They match our range of classic foils. These foils are accessible for beginners while keeping a very good margin of progression.
  • High Aspect Ratio: These high-aspect foils have very little rope and a large wingspan.

How do you calculate the aspect ratio of a front wing?

There are two calculations to calculate the aspect ratio of a front foil wing:

  1. The most accurate formula for calculating aspect ratio: wingspan squared divided by the wing-bearing area of the wing. This formula takes into account chord variations over the entire wing shape and allows for an accurate calculation of the ratio aspect. On the other hand, this formula can be more complex to use because it requires knowledge of the bearing area of the wing, which can be more difficult to measure.
  2. The simplest formula for calculating aspect ratio: wingspan divided by the chord of the wing. This formula is useful if you do not know the bearing surface of the wing. However, it does not take into account string variations and therefore only gives an approximation of the ratio aspect.

Choose between a high-aspect ratio foil or a low-aspect ratio foil

Here are some key points to consider when choosing between a low aspect ratio foil and a high aspect ratio foil

Speed

The speed of a foil is proportional to its drag. It is common to think that a front wing with a high aspect ratio is faster than a wing with a medium aspect ratio, but this is not entirely true. Indeed, drag is generated by different elements such as the elongation of the general surface of the wing, its twist and the speed squared.

In short:

  • Drag is maximized by : speed, aspect ratio, thickness, and front wing chord.
  • The more twist there is, the more stable the front wing is, but this decreases the speed.
  • The profile of the front wing also plays an important role: for example, if the master beau (the maximum thickness) is very far forward on the front wing, the foil will leave earlier but it will lose speed.

As you can see, the speed of a wing is not just about its aspect ratio, many other factors must be taken into account. We can still say that as a general rule, with equal parameters (if we only play with the aspect ratio) a wing with a high aspect ratio will be slower than a wing with a Medium Aspect ratio.

Manoeuvrability

A low aspect ratio foil will be more manoeuvrable, which is ideal if you want to make tight turns while having great ease of control. The rope provides stability in the longitudinal axis. The aspect ratio is limiting for manoeuvrability. Indeed, the greater the aspect ratio of a wing, the less manoeuvrable it will be.

Choose a low aspect ratio or high aspect ratio foil

Weight

The weight of the fin has no influence on the overall performance of the foil, but we can still give you some indications to help you see more clearly.
First, the weight of the fin is determined by the amount of material that is put into the wing. If the wing is foamed, then the weight will be less.

However, a fin with a high aspect ratio does not necessarily have a significant thickness. As a result, it will be made of carbon (depending on the thickness), so it will be a little heavier than a foam wing. Low-aspect and thin wings, on the other hand, require a lot of rigidity and will therefore be heavier because they are built in 100% carbon. On the other hand, a wing with a moderate but thick ratio appearance will be foamed. However, since the wing is larger, it will be just as heavy.

The level of practice

Low aspect ratio foils are more suitable for beginner foilers as they offer better stability. However, they don’t offer much room for improvement. It is for this reason that at Sroka, we have decided to design foils with a moderate aspect ratio which offer ease of learning, forgiveness but also excellent glide so that your foil is scalable.

Conditions of practice

The choice of wing is made according to what you want to do. For gliding on wave trains, a high aspect ratio wing will be more efficient. Indeed, in the majority of cases, foils with a greater aspect ratio generate more glide and allow you to fly longer without having to use the wing. On the other hand, with the same surface area, profile and thickness, they will not go faster than a medium aspect.

If you’re looking for control and handling at high speeds, a wing with moderate aspect ratio will be more interesting. This is the case if you want to get into freestyle for example.

At Sroka, our philosophy is to create products that perfectly suit your needs, while remaining versatile, rather than forcing you to adapt to the equipment. We are always open to comments and feedback on the Sroka sessions Facebook group, because it is above all for you and to share our passion that we design these foils.

Our tips and explanations for buying the right Wing Pack

That’s it, Wing Foil is everywhere and everyone is talking about it. After reading our article on the topic “How to start Wing Foil“, you realize that it is the easiest way to learn Foil, and above all one of the most fun ways to have fun on the water compared to other water sports. You will then find yourself in front of the abundance of equipment and
packs
dedicated to Wingfoil at very different prices. Do you dream of flying on the water and surfing the swell without finding yourself fighting for overcrowded waves? Now is the time to invest in a pack. You still need to know how to choose your Wing Pack. It is to answer the recurring questions of our customers, but also to the practitioners who see our ambassadors evolve on the spots that we offer this article.

At Sroka Company, we are first and foremost passionate people. Our goal is to share this passion with you, thanks to equipment that we enjoy developing and using ourselves, without being overpriced. We want to democratize high-performance, durable and scalable equipment at an affordable priceIn this article, we will simply give you some food for thought. All this advice is based on concrete technical elements, such as our way of developing our foil fins or no boards and our experience. We illustrate this with our equipment, to help you choose the type of equipment (wing, board and foil) that suits you best, and that is able to evolve with you without limiting you to beginner or unsellable equipment afterwards. Finally, we will present our Wing Foil range, and explain our development choices, (including why we have been producing full sandwich boards in France for almost 10 years).

Choosing your board

All our answers to the questions you have when choosing your board!

What type of board to start with?

To get the most out of the experience, we advise you not to overestimate yourself, choosing equipment adapted to your level to fully enjoy the experience. We invite you to pay particular attention to the choice of board. It is what will condition your very first edges: its volume, its length/width ratio, its construction, and its hull, all of which are important. So, to fully enjoy the happy moments of your first flights, avoid at all costs a board that is too small or too technical: to start in Wingsurfing, the race for miniaturization is often synonymous with a frustrating experience. Your experience in board sports is a help, but wing is still a new sport with new rules!

With new technologies, inflatable wingfoil boards are becoming an interesting alternative to hard boards. They offer a surprising feeling of comfort and safety on the water (falling on the board will no longer hurt you) by being forgotten underfoot, to leave room for all the sensations of gliding. They are forgiving of all shocks, in the hold or at sea, and avoid going to the shapers every session. They achieve the feat of combining good performance with the advantage of simplicity of transport at an affordable price. Everything you’ve been waiting for, in short! If you have a small trunk in your car, are the type of traveler or live in an apartment, this is an innovative solution that allows you to fit your entire quiver in one bag.

Hardboards are still safe bets. They are more forgiving of contact with water and offer a more pleasant gliding sensation at take-off. Stiffer, they transmit (slightly) better support to the foil. However, they are still more fragile than inflatable boards and require increased attention when handling them on land, in addition to space to store them for transport.

Beginner level hard boards

SKY RIDER 6’3 and 5’8

120 and 105L with a chunky shape capable of offering stability and easy take-off.

Inflatable boards for beginners

SROKA AIR 6’4 and 6’0

155L and 144L with a bulky shape to take off easily and be stable. The 5’3 can be considered for light builds who already practice board sports.

Discover the wing, for the whole family

Winging with a suitable inflatable paddle (one fin behind and one in the middle so as not to drift) is the best way to discover wind sports. The stability of the SUP will give you the confidence to start mastering the kite with ease. The whole family can get started.

What type of board for intermediate level?

You already practice foiling on another medium (wind foil, surf foil, kite foil, etc.) or wingfoil. It’s time to invest in an intermediate-level Wing Foil package . With these packs, you’ll start to step out of your comfort zone to discover new sensations. By reducing the dimensions of your board, your pumping will be more efficient, your shift holds will be more radical. Welcome to a new world. You’ll start to look at the waves differently than you dared to surf before with your first-time buyer gear. However, the idea is not to deny all the comfort that makes your sessions a moment of pleasure. The equipment we offer in this category does not require a water-start or a mind-blowing technical level to allow you to have fun.

Intermediate level hard boards

SKY RIDER 5’8 and 5’5

105L and 90L depending on the size. The length and width of the board are reduced to facilitate pumping and manoeuvring.

Inflatable boards for intermediate level

SROKA AIR 6’0 and 5’3

144L and 115L depending on the gauge. We reduce the dimensions to offer more sensations without the navigation becoming too technical.

What type of board to perform?

You have mastered the subject of Wing Foil, you sail whatever the level of the spot. You want to push your limits, play with the elements, fly over the swell trains. You know that you’re going to need a smaller and therefore more powerful piece of equipment to experience these sensations.

To surpass yourself, we advise you:

Performance hardboards

SKY RIDER 5’5, 5’2, 4’8 or Fast Flyer 4’6

90L and less depending on the size. Very short and very manoeuvrable boards with aggressive shapes. The Fast Flyer will be the perfect board for surf foiling, and will be excellent in kitesurfing.

Be careful, in wingfoil, the Fast Flyer requires mastery of the water start.

The performance inflatable board

SROKA AIR 5’3

We reduce the dimensions to offer more sensations without the navigation becoming too technical. Its volume of 115L allows it to float even for large sizes.

A single board to take everywhere on trips and spots, in all conditions.

The different constructions of foil boards

We recommend our article on the subject, right here as far as materials are concerned. We do not compromise on quality with Full Sandwich Carbon Fiber or Fiberglass Made in France. For the inflatable boards, we choose professional semi-rigid PVC, and a carbon plate covered with PVC to avoid shocks and that the carbon does not heat up in the sun, damaging the glue.

On the technical side, we have chosen a light rocker to pass the chop, combined with a double concave hull that allows you to easily leave if you come into contact with the water. At the back, the cut out also makes it easy to get back into your surfboards. The outline of the board is chunky to guarantee stability and a very fast start in flight, without being too wide, which would prevent you from manoeuvring. The wide tail also promotes stability. How wingfoil boards are designed, manufactured and designedThe development of a Sroka foilboard

What about footstraps?

And in all this: straps or not? To answer this question, we have dedicated a specific article to the subject. But if you come from windsurfing or kitesurfing, remember that wing foil is different. As with the boom, the rules are not the same. If you’re just starting out, in the vast majority of cases, straps are a hindrance to progress by limiting your ability to make up for mistakes and increasing the risk of injury to your ankles.

Choosing your Foil

All our answers to the questions you have to choose the foil that suits you best!

The parameters that influence the operation of a Foil

The front fin: To put it simply, there are three families of front fins, the Low Aspect, the Mid Aspect and the High Aspect (here is a detailed article on aspect ratios). Low Aspect are stocky, with a small wingspan. With their fighter jet shape, they are very manoeuvrable but their lateral stability, especially on small surfaces, sometimes leaves something to be desired.

The High Aspect are more elongated, like glider wings. The High Aspect flies with the stability of an albatross. Your pumping will be effortless and their flight speed is impressive. They offer an excellent gliding feel. However, they are relatively technical and less maneuverable winglets, often requiring the use of a shorter fuselage to compensate.

The Mid Aspect are forgiving, manoeuvrable and generate very good lift (we recommend the 1750 for beginners). They represent a good compromise between the two worlds, especially if you can’t afford to buy one fin per spot and per type of condition. If you are more resourceful, you can reduce the surface area of your fin (1250 for example) to maneuver on command without ever stalling in turns and waves.

Choosing your front foil fin

The mast : For those who are beginners or who are navigating in shallow and very flat bodies of water, we recommend 70cm masts. They are the safe choice and falls will be less impressive than with longer masts. These are masts that are useful in surf foil to stay in contact with the wave.

Capable of making a beginner fly as well as making a more experienced practitioner evolve with very good sensations, the 80cm mast offers excellent versatility. This is the choice of security for a first investment.

For those who really want to perform, surf big or sail on a very rough body of water, we recommend a mast of 90 or more. You will be able to take an angle at the water’s edge to cap as close as possible to the wind. These masts are not intended for beginners because they are less forgiving of mistakes.

Guide to choosing the length of the wingfoil mast

The different constructions of Foil

Full carbon foil is expensive and fragile. On the other hand, it is lighter and more responsive, and it requires a little less maintenance than an aluminum foil. Aluminum foil is often cheaper, stronger, and stiffer if built well. Carbon has excellent torsional strength but less rigidity than aluminum (hence its use for windsurf masts), unless a particularly neat and often very expensive construction is used. The price of a carbon mast can be five to ten times higher than an aluminum mast.

The aluminium foil has the advantage of being more modular and transportable with easily interchangeable parts, as carbon foils often use a “T-bar”, a part joining the fuselage and the mast. However, the aluminium foil will be heavier.

How to choose your wing

All our answers to the questions you may have when choosing your wing and wing size!

do a wingsurfing course in Les Glénans with Sroka equipment

The different constructions of Foil

To put it simply, there are two types of shapes, those that are chunky and those with more wingspan. If you like to twirl freely, we recommend a chunky shape that will have the advantage of being compact and maneuverable. If you’re looking for the thrill of exhilarating and controlled top speed, while still having very good stability in the surf, opt for a more elongated wing instead.

Boom or inflatable central slat?

Boom construction is very rare. So rare, in fact, that only one brand offers it. Of course, you can place your hands freely in it, but it is non-bendable, bulky and heavier. Your transport comfort will suffer, especially if you are going on a trip. It’s also more dangerous in the event of a fall if you hit the boom head-on or hit your board deck with it.

If you’ve taken up wingsurfing partly to get rid of the old world of heavy and complicated rigging equipment, and you’re looking for a kite that can be forgotten in navigation as in a trunk, then the inflatable central batten is the right option. Before making your choice, you have to imagine that you will be sailing with your arms above your head for the whole session. After two hours, we are absolutely convinced that you will greatly appreciate having one kilo less to carry, lightness and ease of use.

Plus, you can’t imagine a simpler set up. One pump and you’re done. In less than two minutes, your wing is inflated and all that’s left is the launch between you and the pleasure of flying. And once the session is over, or if you have a sudden urge to travel, transportation is all the easier. All you need is one bag to fit the wing in any luggage or car trunk. It’s up to you to choose the best option, the one that suits your sailing style and your desires, but we sincerely believe that the choice of the inflatable is the one that best suits the spirit of the sport. Wingsurf Foil, with its simplicity, the freedom it allows and its user-friendly aspect never seen before in water sports.

How many handles?

Some brands continue to cover the center slat with handles. Others opt for sobriety, with a front handle and a rear handle. The right question to ask yourself to decide is: what do I really need? If you want to fly gracefully in the light wind, have fun for hours in big conditions without being physically bullied or have total freedom in surfing, you’re going to need a light wing. The lighter the kite, the less it needs your help to self-support, and the freer you are to move.

Experience has also shown us that we always place our hands in the same places, regardless of the number of handles. So, why bother with weight, fragility points, and unnecessary handles that cause confusion? For all these reasons, we choose to have only what is really necessary on the wing: three comfortable, wide and solid handles. One for the front hand, one for the back hand and one for surfing located on the leading edge. Some of that weight gained, we reinvest in carefully placed reinforcements, so that it is actually useful and not just a selling point.

We also add two V-handles. They allow you to navigate with overpower or underpower, to have a freer hand placement and to always fall back on a support during manoeuvres. They tend to become more widespread.

Why choose a spinnaker stretched on the trailing edge, and what hollow?

If you want a wing that’s responsive, responsive, more capable, and capable of picking up the slightest gust of wind and turning it into movement power, a taut trailing edge is a must. For those for whom intense sailing at very high revs is the norm, we advise you to leave it a little slack to facilitate the flow, as you would do on a trimmed board sail. A sail that is too tight will quickly become unmanageable in gusts.

The distribution of the panels is crucial for maintaining the profile while sailing. If they are placed carefully, the drag will be greatly reduced and the wing much less physical. You’ll feel like you’re one with your equipment, which will increase your sense of pleasure tenfold.

To choose your dip, it all depends on what you need on your favorite spot. If it’s a super-powerful wing capable of making you start at a quarter turn, go for a big dip instead. On the other hand, it will saturate relatively quickly, lose stability at high revs and become very physical on the high range. If you’re looking to reach a higher top speed, opt for a flatter trough. Your kite will generate a little less power at low revs, but will accelerate endlessly like in a dream, while giving a much more pleasant sense of stability and control in the high range.

Windows or not?

Windows in the sail would be handy on saturated spots… This is still far from being the case at the moment. It is also important to be aware that windows weigh down the wings and, depending on the quality of the materials used, can be a point of fragility. In case you opt for a windowless wing, it will require you to raise the sail to look downwind. So it’s up to you to choose according to your needs.

TIPS FROM BRUNO SROKA, 3x WORLD CHAMPION IN KITESURFING

BrunoSroka

To start foiling, choose the flattest water possible, between 10 and 15 knots of wind. Add 5 meters of line to your standard line length because the longer your lines are, the more constant the power will be in the kite, unlike short lines will mean fast and jerky movements.

Ideally, undercover yourself slightly and use the kite to get on the board, then keep the board flat on the water, the goal is to generate speed by sinusoidizing your kite. Keep your center of gravity above the board and foil to avoid generating parasitic movements. Don’t press down on the back leg to try to get the foil up but rather load on the front leg to counter it. As you accelerate and gain more horizontal speed, the foil will lift itself. Always remember to press down on the front leg again. It is preferable to first touch the foil every 15 meters, which will allow this vertical dimension to be integrated. As you go along, you’ll be flying longer.

For safety reasons, avoid starting with onshore winds and avoid over-canvassing. Start in an uncrowded place, where there are few kitesurfers and away from swimmers. Foil requires vigilance, always remember that as soon as you feel signs of fatigue, it is better to stop so as not to lose your caution.

THE STAND UP PADDLE PADDLE

How to choose the right SUP paddle

An essential part of your stand up paddle equipment, it should not be forgotten that the paddle is the engine of the stand up paddle board.
As a result, the choice of paddle is very important according to your different practices. There are many models, blade and shaft shapes, materials as well as possible sizes and fastening systems.

To row correctly and be efficient in the movement without hurting your back, the length of the paddle must be adapted to the size of the practitioner.

The goal is for every stroke of the paddle to be effective. To do this, the blade must be completely immersed to have the best possible performance.
If you touch the water with the tip of the paddle, you won’t be able to reach an optimal speed and you may be thrown off balance.
On the other hand, a paddle that is too large will lead to slow and tiring movements, especially in the action of bringing your paddle forward.
If the paddler is stiff when paddling, then there is a good chance that his paddle is too big. Paddling involves using the entire upper torso and not just the arms, it is natural to have to lean forward when paddling to achieve more efficiency. The paddle is actually a third point of support on the water that balances your upper body and allows you to lighten the support of your legs on the board.

In this article, we detail how to choose the right SUP paddle and adapt it to your practice according to: the size adjustment and the materials used for the blade and the shaft.

We illustrate this article with our range of SROKA paddle paddles.

Accessible to all, the Stand-Up Paddle is a great way to get away from it all and go on an adventure. Combining physical activity and escapism, SUP, like cycling, is broken down into several disciplines. Whether you prefer a family ride, a sporty ride (or paddle race), a duo SUP or even surfing, there is a paddle adapted to each of these practices. Given the number of different practices, you need to know how to choose the right Stand Up Paddle model for your practice.

At SROKA, we are first and foremost a team of passionate people. We have been developing our range of inflatable stand-up paddle boards ourselves since 2013. It is through hard work that we manage to develop one of the best products on the market to allow you to have maximum pleasure in the water.
Being concerned about our environmental impact, we make it a point of honor to develop paddles with a maximized lifespan that will limit the use of new resources.

Practicing SUP in complete safety and with the appropriate and quality equipment is essential. That’s why we choose to offer different ranges of boards. In this way, everyone finds happiness according to their expectations and desires.

Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board

Choose your SUP according to your level and size

Paddle for BEGINNERS

For beginners, choose a wider board that provides more stability. Indeed, the wider the paddle, the more stable it is. Our Malibu range is perfect for beginners.
Depending on your size, the size of the board is longer or shorter. For Malibus, prefer the 10′ for those under 90kg and the 10’6 for those over 90kg or those looking for a very high stability.

Paddle for ADVANCED

When you progress and feel more comfortable, you can choose a narrower board to have more responsiveness and glide. For sporty hikes or rides, a narrower SUP board allows for a better glide due to the reduction of friction zones on the water. This is particularly the case for the Alpha range, the Easy 11’6 and 12’6 or the Girly.

Which paddle board to choose

Choose your stand-up paddle according to the spot

CALM BODY OF WATER
If you are sailing in clame water (calm waters, lakes, ponds), a narrower and thinner Stand-Up Paddle can be considered for beginners. If you want to have a more cardio practice and more speed you can turn to a model with a pointed nose (Alpha or Easy 11’6 and 12’6) which will combine stability, speed and performance.

CHOPPY BODY OF WATER
For rough waters (seas, oceans, rivers) slightly wider boards will offer you more stability and improve your balance.

This is the case with the Easy and the Malibus, for example.

How to choose your inflatable paddle board

Malibu SUP: the perfect range for beginners

The inflatable Stand Up Paddle from the Malibu range are a perfect compromise to start and progress. These boards are perfect for beginners or family practice. Ultra versatile, the Malibu are perfect for walks, surfing or trying yoga. Their versatility also gives them a lot of room for improvement!

These are top-of-the-range products at SROKA. The Malibu are very durable boards over time, we equip many clubs and nautical centers with this professional range. The Malibu have a reinforced construction. They have three layers of PVC on the rails as well as two layers, fused together, on the top and bottom of the paddle.

Ultra Solid Paddle

In the same vein, we have the Girly range of women’s paddle boards . They are high-performance models with a refined design. In this range, we find the Malibu Girly 10′ model which is similar to the classic Malibu 10′ but in a version adapted for women’s sizes. If you want a faster paddle, the Girly 11’6 and 12’6 have a thinner nose that allows you to gain glide and cover more distance while minimizing your effort.
Suitable for beginners, the design of the Girly makes them unique boards that allow you to combine fun, sport and aesthetics.

Women's Inflatable Paddle Board

Inflatable paddle boards for hiking or performance research

For long-distance hikes, opt for boards with a pointed nose. They make it possible to cut through the water and thus cover more distance with less effort to move forward. For this, we have created the Easy 11’6×32 inflatable paddle board and the Easy 12’6×32. These SUPs have a pleasant glide with great stability. Faster than the Easy 10′, these two models are suitable for both beginners and advanced, but also if you want to hike at an attractive price.

Prefer the Easy 11’6 if you are a beginner or for long walks. It will provide you with more comfort and manoeuvrability compared to the Easy 12’6. These models are sold like all Easy in complete packs with hand pump, aluminum paddle, leash, fin and carry bag.

If you are looking for a top-of-the-range board to go hiking, work on your cardio while having a gain in performance, opt for the Alpha range of inflatable paddles. This range combines speed and rigidity. It is an excellent compromise for those who want a high-performance, durable board with a superb glide and that results in great speed performance. Sold with a high-end wheeled carry bag, it will be very easy for you to bring it to all your favorite spots.

Looking for speed? The longer the Stand Up Paddle board, the more the board glides with minimal effort. The SUP will keep a constant and straight trajectory. The Alpha 12’6×31 and Easy 12’6×32 are the perfect options for anyone looking for glide, performance and stability.

How to choose between the Easy 12’6×32 and the Alpha 12’6×31?

Both of these paddles are built with the same material base, i.e. PVC used on RIB boats, these are high-end materials, compared to some brands that use truck tarpaulin PVCs. The Alpha 12’6×31 and the Easy 12’6×32 are touring boards, they will both give you great sensations.
If you want to go on sporty hikes, the Alpha 12’6 will offer you a better glide because it is narrower. The Easy 12’6 is wider, so you’ll have better stability.
In summary, the wider the SUP, the more stable it is and the less it will slip.
The Alpha 12’6×28 will therefore be even faster, but a little less stable because it is narrower. It will be more aimed at more experienced people.

With three layers on the rails compared to two for the Easy, the Alpha is more resistant. It will also be more durable over time thanks to the fusion technology with which it is built. The Easy is ideal for a first purchase. Made with high-end materials just like the Alpha, it has an excellent quality/price ratio, but will still remain less rigid compared to the Alpha range.

Stand-up inflatable paddle board sroka easy

Inflatable SUP for stand-up paddle racing

SUP Race Sroka Company Alpha 12'6x28x5

The practice of Stand Up Paddle Race is the most physical discipline of the SUP. It’s all about speed, endurance and technique. For paddle racing, the ideal boards have a long, thin outline with a pointed bow-shaped nose to optimize glide and cut through the water with minimal friction and a thinner tail (rear) to reduce drag.

The practice of Stand-Up Paddle racing can be broken down into three categories :

  1. Flatwater : A discipline combining endurance, cardio, power and technique. The principle of the race is to complete courses of different distances (linear or loop) on a flat body of water, which can range from 3 km to more than 50 km.
  2. Downwinding : It is a sport that combines endurance, gliding and seaworthiness. The principle is to make a journey from point A to point B. The course is in the direction of the wind and waves to surf the swell with your paddle.
  3. The Beach Race : The race is offered with a beach start, board in hand, where the runners lead passages located in the waves and others on land. It is often a short and intense format that is around 5 km long.
    Long distances.

If you are looking for maximum glide and efficiency, opt forthe Alpha 12’6×28 and 14’x27″ boards. Due to their shape designed to combine speed and glide, these boards offer optimal performance in competition. They are relatively narrow and will therefore provide you with a phenomenal glide. With these boards no more excuses, the material won’t be a problem. Only your technical level will make the difference!

Can you surf with an inflatable paddle board?

Waves 9'5 SUP Paddle Surf

Surfing with a paddle board is all about catching waves, while using the paddle as a motor and fulcrum. To do this, you need a rounder board than a classic paddle board in order to go down the wave with ease.

At SROKA we have designed the ideal SUP board for surfing, the Waves 9’5 Fusion inflatable paddle board. Easy to carry, this Stand-Up Paddle will allow you to go from rides to surfing with ease. Indeed, the SUP Waves is adapted primarily for waves but you can also go for nice rides with it.
Relatively short and with a round outline, the Waves 9’5 will allow you to make nice curves on the waves. With a reduced thickness for better contact with the wave, this board adapts to all levels of practice. Finally, the grippy pad it has makes it easier to maneuver while surfing and makes it more fluid.

SUP in DUO with 2 people

Who has ever wanted to go Stand-Up Paddle as a couple or as a family (two adults and two children)? Whether you’re a family, a couple or a group of friends, SROKA has you covered. Our DUO Easy and DUO boards are perfect for tandem paddle boarding.

Stand up paddle tandem Duo

  • Very stable and practical, the DUO Easy will make you share unique moments on the water in complete safety. This 15’9 foot (457 cm) board has two bungee cords, one on the front and one on the back, so you can take your stuff however you want. Its raised nose will make you effortlessly pass the chop of the water. Built with quality materials, the Easy DUO board supports up to 220 kg and has an inimitable durability.
  • Lighter and stiffer, the SUP DUO is designed to offer you good stability while having an excellent glide. As stable as the Easy DUO, the DUO is stiffer and therefore faster thanks to its design designed to make it more efficient. Indeed, the SUP DUO is made with the best Dropstich (layering technique) and PVC on the market, in order to ensure you a gliding sensation similar to a rigid paddle. At 16 feet long (487 cm) and highly rigid, it can support up to 320 kg.
