Andalusia, a sunny region in the south of Spain, is a true paradise for water sports enthusiasts, especially wing foil. With its vast and diverse coastline, sandy beaches and constant winds, Andalusia offers ideal conditions for the booming wing foiling.

The wing foil spots in Andalusia are renowned for their crystal clear waters and breathtaking landscapes. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, each spot has something unique to offer, from flat bodies of water for the first tacks to more powerful swells for more radical maneuvers. From Tarifa, the jewel of Spain’s wind sports, to Cadiz and its wide open beaches, to the more intimate venues of Conil de la Frontera, each location has distinct characteristics that meet the expectations of the most demanding riders.

You could even say that every beach can become a wing foil spot because there are so many options.

In this article, we’ll explore some of the best Wing Foil spots in Andalusia, detailing wind direction, access to spots, wind statistics and the best times to sail. Prepare your equipment and be guided through the hidden gems of this beautiful region for an unforgettable wing foiling experience.

Ideal time for Wing Foil in Andalusia

All year round! The wind statistics are really impressive. This makes this region one of the windiest in Europe. In summer, there is more Poniente (north wind) and in winter more Levente ( sells easterly which is accelerating with the Strait of Gibraltar. To the east of Gibraltar by Levente the wind will be less strong, it will be strongest over Tarifa, and will decrease the further you go. Mild temperatures all allow you to consider this destination as a perfect destination whatever the season.

Main Wing Foil Spots in Andalusia

We will not detail all the possible and unimaginable spots because every beach can be a Wingfoil spot. What to remember. To the east of Gibraltar the wind will be less constant in summer. It will be more like spots from November to June. To the west of Gibraltar, the consistency of the wind conditions will be greatly improved with higher wind statistics.

1. Tarifa

Tarifa is one of the most popular spots for wing foiling due to the climate, exceptional wind conditions and beautiful beaches.

Here is a detailed description of some of the wing foil spots in Tarifa:

1.1 Balneario Beach:

Balneario beach offers a large area to deploy your kites or wing foils and access the water, benefiting from ideal wind conditions on days of easterly wind (from sea to land). Nevertheless, this beach is marked by strong offshore currents and is frequently crowded with kitesurfers, making it not recommended for beginners.

1.2 Playa de Los Lances Norte

Playa de Los Lances Norte, located north of Tarifa, is one of the most popular spots for wing foiling in Andalusia. The beach mainly benefits from crosswinds, known as the Poniente (coming from the west) and Levante (coming from the east), providing ideal conditions for wingfoils. Its access is very easy, thanks to its proximity to the main road, making it easy for cars or trucks to arrive near the beach. The ideal time to sail in Los Lances Norte is all year round, but the conditions are particularly favorable from November to April, offering unforgettable gliding sessions in a breathtaking setting.

1.3. Playa de Los Lances Sur

Playa de Los Lances Sur, located closer to Tarifa than the North Beach, is another top spot for wing foiling in Andalusia. Its access is facilitated by its proximity to the national road, making the spot easily accessible. By Poniente you can have more swell and therefore complicated for beginners.

1.4. Playa de Valdevaqueros

The Playa de Valdevaqueros is the spot of the great sand dune of Tarifa. Located at the northern end of the Tarifa beach. It is the favorite place for wingfoilers. In summer, sometimes the spot can be really overloaded with practitioners but the conditions are very safe which allows you to enter without any problem in case of problems. Access to the beach is easy with parking lots very close to the beach.

1.5. Playa de Bolonia

Playa de Bolonia, located even further north de Tarifa, is a popular spot for wing foiling By Levente, the wind will be a little less strong and will allow you to sail even if the wind is too strong on Tarifa. The beach is mainly exposed to the winds of Poniente (from the west) and Levante (from the east). It’s a slightly less crowded spot compared to Tarifa.

1.6. Canos del Ameca

The Canos del Ameca spot is the wave spot for experienced wing foilers. In the same way as the other spots, it works by Levente, or Poniente. However, the waves are present by Levente when he blew at least 3 to 4 days quite strongly. Swell trains can be consistent.

1.7. Cadiz La plage de Valdelagrana,

Valdelagrana beach, located in El Puerto de Santa María near Cadiz, is a popular spot for the people of Cadiz because it is located in the bay of Cadiz. Exposed mainly to the Poniente (from the west) and Levante (from the east) winds, it offers regular wind conditions for wing foiling. The spot is really very safe because it is located in the bay of Cadiz. With its calm and shallow waters, this spot is a perfect place for beginners and intermediate practitioners wishing to progress in a serene and magnificent atmosphere.

Not far away, there is the spot of Conil de la Frontera which will operate in the same conditions as the spots of Cadiz.

Some additional information

Regularity of wind statistics

Andalusia, particularly the Costa de la Luz region, is renowned for its constant and powerful winds. The prevailing winds are the Poniente (west wind) and the Levante (east wind), providing ideal conditions for wingfoiling all year round. To the east of Gibraltar, the winds will be less consistent and regular, but the climate will be calmer.

Sunshine

Andalusia enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot and sunny summers. The region is one of the sunniest in Europe, which allows you to enjoy many hours of sunshine for your wingfoil sessions. And even winter allows you to have a very pleasant climate to practice wing foiling without being cold.

Quantity of spotlights

The area has about 20 wingfoil spots along the Costa de la Luz, from Tarifa to Cadiz. Each spot offers different conditions depending on the direction and strength of the wind.

Recreational vehicle

It is possible to go down in a campervan and stay in this area for quite a long time. Many campsites and motorhome parking areas are available, providing a comfortable option for your extended stays.

Hardware

Tarifa is a nerve centre for board sports and is home to many surf shops where you can rent or buy wingfoil equipment. You will also find wingfoil schools for courses and training.

What equipment to use to sail in Andalusia.

The equipment needed to navigate in Tarifa can be very varied. In Levante (east wind), the wind can be very strong, so small wing wing sizes will be preferred. On the other hand, in Poniente (northwest wind), the wind will be less strong and therefore a bigger wing will be necessary.

If you are going to start winging, we recommend the 5’4 or 5’7 Wing foil pack ; This pack will be ideal during the summer period when the wind will be less strong. If you are resourceful, choose the Superfly which are perfectly adapted to the conditions of heavy seas and strong winds.

The size of the front foil fin will depend on your level. But to sum up, if you’re just starting out, go for a Control 1250 if the wind is very strong, or otherwise for the classic 1500 or 1750 range. If you are resourceful or an expert, Tarifa will allow you to sail with very small front wings, such as 550 cm², 670 cm² or 810 cm².

Pack wing foil idéal pour débuter

In summary, Andalusia is an ideal destination for wingfoil enthusiasts thanks to its regular wind conditions, abundant sunshine, and the presence of many spots and facilities

You are spoilt for choice. All year round you can sail and find a suitable spot for wing foiling, kiting or surfing. Tarifa is considered the Mecca of board sports in Europe.

Mauritius, known for its white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, is a dream destination for water sports enthusiasts. Among the popular activities that attract snow sports enthusiasts, wingfoiling stands out. This small island located in the Indian Ocean offers ideal conditions for wingfoiling thanks to its constant trade winds, protected lagoons and stunning landscapes.

Wing foil, a relatively new discipline, combines elements of windsurfing, kitesurfing and foiling. It consists of using a hand-held kite to propel yourself on the water, while being mounted on a board equipped with a foil that allows you to “fly” above the surface of the water. This unique feeling of gliding and freedom explains why wingfoiling is quickly gaining popularity among water sports enthusiasts.

This sport is particularly appreciated for its ease of access and its fast learning curve. Unlike other water sports that require specific conditions and a lot of physical strength, wingfoiling can be enjoyed by people of all ages and fitness levels. It does not require powerful waves or strong winds, making it a versatile activity that can be enjoyed almost anywhere, including the calm lagoons of Mauritius.

To fully enjoy the wing foiling experience, it is essential to choose the right place and learn under the supervision of qualified professionals. Certified instructors can guide you through the initial steps, teach you basic techniques, and ensure that you progress safely. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced skier, Mauritius offers an idyllic setting to discover or perfect your wing foiling skills.

Practical information for your stay in Mauritius

To go to Mauritius, several airlines offer direct flights from many international cities, including Paris, Geneva and Zurich. Prices for plane tickets vary, but you can find deals from 660 euros for a round trip. The flight lasts about 11 hours on average from bets for example.

As far as formalities are concerned, travelers usually need to have a valid passport and, depending on their nationality, a visa. It is not necessary to get specific vaccinations for Mauritius, but it is always a good idea to check the health recommendations before travelling.

For a quality stay, accommodation prices vary between 120 and 300 euros per night for a 4-star hotel. You can choose from luxury hotels, vacation rentals, and more budget-friendly accommodation.

On average, a lunch in Mauritius costs around €6.02. Prices can vary, between €3 and €12 depending on the period and location.

When it comes to wingfoiling, here are some popular schools in Mauritius:

  1. Mauritius Kiteboarding School
  2. Kite & Wingfoil Academy
  3. Mauritius Windsurfing and Kiteboarding

For the must-do activities in Mauritius, consider visiting the Pamplemousses garden, strolling through the streets of Port-Louis, and enjoying the fine sandy beaches and turquoise waters.

Just like your skin, the spinnaker of a wingfoil or kitesurfer is sensitive to UV rays. This is why it is strongly advised not to leave your kite on the beach in the sun when you are not going into the water. Therefore, if you are not using your equipment, it is best to store it to ensure its maximum life.

As with the sun, prolonged exposure to strong winds and sand can accelerate the wear and tear on your wing. This is why, in case of strong winds, the trailing edge of your wing flaps in the wind, which damages it prematurely. In addition, when the sand flies (tramontane conditions in the south of France for example) the sand hits the wing. The sand then acts as a sandpaper on your wing foil or kite surf.

Gruissan, nicknamed the pearl of the Mediterranean coast, is positioned as a dream destination for wing foil enthusiasts. The city, known for its authentic charm, offers an environment conducive to wind and board sports, making it a privileged place to indulge in this emerging discipline.

The Must-See Spots for Wingfoil in Gruissan

Located in the heart of the corridors where the tramontane accelerates, Gruissan is bathed by more than 300 days of winds a year. Its laid-back atmosphere and picturesque scenery make it an ideal playground for wingfoil enthusiasts. The many specialty stores on site offer visitors the opportunity to purchase the necessary equipment and benefit from repair services, ensuring a hassle-free experience.

The beach of the chalets

The first must-see on our list, the Plage des Chalets, allows easier access to our second spot which will be the Plage de la Vieille Nouvelle. The Chalets are the beach that hosts the mythical Wind Challenge, which is now broken down into Kite Challenge and Wing Challenge. At Les Chalets, the wind is often quite unstable due to the urbanisation to the wind of the beach, but as soon as you pass on the other side of the seawall… The magic begins. Be careful, in summer, launching is forbidden due to the swimming area. You will have to get into the water in the channels and sail at 300 meters.

The Old News

The spot of La Vieille has been the Mecca of windsurfing for more than 20 years now, well known for the Wind challenge. It will allow you to tack more than 10 km in a tramontane wind that can take more than 10 knots between Gruissan and Port-la-Nouvelle. The background with the view of the Canigou… The wild beach… In short, a joy. Be careful, for some time now, access to the beach by car is no longer possible, or very risky (we are talking about a fine of 1500 euros). It now has to be accessed differently, either by the canal or by the Plage des Chalets.

Mateille, it’s small, it’s a pond, there are lots of beginners and a school, but it feels good! The spot is terribly windy and unstable in the tramontana, but as soon as the “grec”, the wind that comes from the south, comes in, the spot becomes legendary. The sessions are a kind of gathering of buddies with the same passion.

At the Nautique, the wind comes in any direction. The spot is reassuring because it is a pond. A little chop (which can become quite big) will allow you to practice any type of sailing program. Be careful though, at the bottom, the pond has long been the “garbage dump” of Narbonne, the atmosphere is with stone blocks and broken tiles on the water’s edge (it depends on where you get in the water).

Various Activities in Gruissan

Gruissan and its surroundings lend themselves to a variety of activities, from wingfoil on windy days to paddle boarding when the sea is calm (often it’s the Mediterranean). The practice of dockstart is also possible, provided that a suitable pontoon can be found. For the curious, learning how to beach start in foil is an exciting option that we will explore in our next articles. that you don’t want to rinse your kite every time. We therefore advise you to rinse it once in a while at low pressure with fresh water.

Tips for Wing Foil Equipment in Gruissan

Mediterranean winds can be strong and erratic, challenging even experienced practitioners. Two approaches are available to you depending on your level of mastery for the choice of your wing foil equipment:

For experienced practitioners:

Opt for a variety of equipment, favouring small boards and foils adapted to big conditions. As an example, the SROKA team recommends a 4’6″ or 4’8″ Superfly, 3.4 and 5m² V3 wings, a 14 mm Elite foil with carbon fuselage, 180cm² stabilizer and three fins to adapt to all conditions, preferably small.

For practitioners in progress:

Choose equipment that you are familiar with, remaining aware of potentially strong and unstable conditions. Safety is paramount, especially at sea with offshore winds.

Maintain your kite surfing and wing foil kites: watch out for the sun!

Gruissan is a town by the water. This area is an ideal place to practice water sports. Windsurfing, wingfoil, kitesurfing but also optimist, canoeing, paddle boarding and catamaran sailing. If you want to learn with a school, go to the two nautical bases of Gruissan which will welcome you with pleasure. Finally, for all those who are waiting for their other half on the beach, this region offers many alternatives running, hiking, mountain biking, paintboall, horse riding on the beach, tree climbing, climbing in the Clape. Have a good ride.

In short

In summary, it is important to note that these unknown spots for wing foil in France, with the exception of the Etang de Thau, are located in the mountains. As a result, wing foiling is mainly concentrated during the summer or spring season, when temperatures are milder and wind conditions are favourable. It’s best to plan your sessions with these factors in mind.

In addition, it is essential to point out that the presence of shops specializing in wing foil may be limited in these regions. It is therefore recommended that you check and maintain your equipment before going to the site. Make sure your kite, board, foil, and accessories (and more generally your wing foil pack) are in good working order before you set off on your adventure. There’s nothing worse than being in a beautiful place with faulty equipment! We can deliver to you within 24 hours.

Wing foiling in the Jura? Although it is not necessarily the first destination that comes to mind when looking for a place to sail, the Jura is full of spots to practice just about all our sports.

The Jura is nicknamed the “land of lakes”, which explains the presence of a large number of lakes that promote the practice of wing foiling in all conditions and in all seasons.

Spots for wingfoil in the Jura

1. Bellecin

Bellecin is unquestionably the main spot in the Jura. Originally a sports centre, it is home to the Vouglans Sailing Club (CVV). Nestled on the shores of Lake Vouglans, the third artificial reservoir in France stretches over more than 32 km. The spot offers two sailing orientations: in the north with “la bise”, a cold and steady wind rarely exceeding 25 knots, or in the south where the wind can vary from 5 knots to more than 40, accompanied by strong gusts and sometimes an unstable orientation. Upon arrival, the sailing club will greet you warmly, ready to make you feel comfortable and share all the necessary information.

2. Clairvaux

Clairvaux is the kite spot, especially in winter when the other spots are empty, or almost empty. It is not passable in summer due to the swimming area. The wind blows exclusively from the south, no navigation is possible in the north, the wind being stopped by the city. In winging, be careful, as there are a few poles at the water’s edge to spot before you start. Do not hesitate to ask for information on site for more details.

3. Chalain

Chalain is the fallback spot when the wind is not adapted to other spots, especially in winter. The site works in all orientations, depending on the beach where you get into the water.

4. Coiselet

The Coiselet spot works in both north and south orientations, which makes it ideal during the emptying period of upper dams such as Vouglans. The water is often at its highest level in winter. A parking lot, located on private land whose owner allows access to riders, is located directly on the side of the road along the lake.

What activities to do in the Jura?

Currently, the Jura lends itself particularly well to water activities, offering complete versatility! With the exception of surfing, where you will have to go to Switzerland to surf the Wave garden (artificial wave). Whether it’s for the dockstart, where you will find many pontoons in the ports of La Mercantine or Le Meix, as well as at the diving board of Lake Clairvaux, or even for towed foiling, a practice that can be considered in the speed zone of Lake Vouglans.

You can of course practice wingfoil, kitesurfing and windsurfing in addition to the more public activities such as housesailing or dinghy.

What equipment to go foiling in the Jura?

The area is rarely affected by periods of strong winds. Thus, you will need to bring your Wing foil equipment suitable for light breezes, especially in summer. However, be aware that you are never safe from a gust of wind. In this case, prepare your small boards and foils, because the south wind can be violent!

For experienced riders, small foils can allow you to gain flight speed and therefore pass the softs more easily.

Where to rent and take lessons?

If you want to take lessons, you can turn to the Vouglans Sailing Club, a friendly club with a family atmosphere. They will provide you with all the necessary materials during your learning sessions. For rental, the CVV can also offer you equipment at competitive rates.

Advice from the SROKA team

The area attracts many bathers in the summer, so it is essential to remain vigilant against irresponsible behaviour. Many individuals attempt to swim across lakes without any means of identification. So be careful, keep a close eye in front of you.

Otherwise, all we have to do is wish you an excellent stay!

The foil is a lift system that allows board sports practitioners to fly above the water. The foil’s wings placed underwater push the limits of different practices and optimize speed. The foil is suitable for many board sports: kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, wingsurfing…

But where to practice foiling in France? If you are looking for quiet spots, away from the crowds and noise, mountain lakes are an ideal option. Indeed, these bodies of water offer varied conditions adapted to all levels, as well as an exceptional natural setting. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced sailor, you are bound to find a lake that suits you to practice foiling.

The advantages of foiling on a mountain lake

Foiling on a mountain lake has several advantages:

  • Benefit from a calm and flat body of water, ideal for learning the basics of foiling or perfecting your technique.
  • Take advantage of a steady and often thermal wind, which allows you to sail often, with a smaller and more maneuverable kite.
  • Avoid the crowds and stress of crowded spots, and gain safety and serenity.
  • Discover magnificent landscapes, between mountains, forests and picturesque villages.
  • Vary the pleasures by practicing different foil sports, according to your desires and the weather conditions.

What sport can you play? Wing foil, dockstart…

Depending on the type of foil you have, you can practice different sports on a mountain lake:

  • Wing foiling: this involves using an inflatable wing that you hold at arm’s length to propel yourself on the foil. It’s an accessible and fun sport, which doesn’t require a lot of wind or equipment. It allows you to feel the sensation of flying while controlling your trajectory.

  • The kite foil: It is a more technical and faster sport, which requires a good mastery of the kite and foil, it is the same principle as for kite surfing but with a foil under the board. The kite foil allows you to take advantage of even the light wind and make impressive jumps.

  • Wake foiling: To go surf foil, you have to use a boat or cable to pull you while holding on the board with a foil. It’s an easy and fun sport, which doesn’t depend on the wind or waves, but still requires something to tow around. It allows you to learn the basics of foiling and work on your balance.

  • Surf foil: In a mountain lake you can surf foil on the wave of a boat for example. As with wakefoil, you set off with a boat towed by a boat, but in surf foil, you let go of the rope to surf the waves as you wish!

Ideal weather conditions

The advantage of dockstart and pumping is that the practice does not require many conditions, for your sessions to be optimal we advise you:

  1. A flat body of water or with regular waves or bumps that don’t break.
  2. A light or no wind, or the wind in the direction of the pumping (downwind).
  3. A pleasant temperature : pumping is a physical activity that makes you feel hot but in which you often fall into the water.

Safety & Precautions

Here are some precautions to take to dockstart safely:

  • Choose a suitable spot : you must have enough water depth not to touch the bottom with the foil, and avoid areas frequented by swimmers or boats. This is especially important if you’re just starting out and don’t have a good grasp of your trajectories yet.
  • Wear a wetsuit and helmet : dockstart is not a dangerous sport, but it is a practice where you often fall into the water, sometimes very close to the starting pontoon, which can hurt. In addition, foiling can cause injury, so it is advisable to wear a wetsuit to protect yourself. A helmet can also be useful in case of a blow to the head on the pontoon or on the board when you fall.

The foil is a lift system that allows board sports practitioners to fly above the water. The foil’s wings placed underwater push the limits of different practices and optimize speed. The foil adapts to many board sports: Wingfoil, Wakefoil, Kitesurf foil, Windfoil and even Sup foil!

The Ile de Ré is an ideal place to practice foiling, thanks to its varied weather conditions, its magnificent landscapes and its many water activities. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, you are bound to find a spot adapted to your level and your desire.

In this article, we present the advantages of the Ile de Ré for foiling, the best spots to discover and some tips to make the most of your experience.

The advantages of the Ile de Ré for foiling

Why is the Ile de Ré an ideal place to practice foiling?

The Ile de Ré is located on the Atlantic coast, off the coast of La Rochelle. It enjoys a mild and sunny oceanic climate, with regular winds and high tides. These are the perfect conditions for foiling all year round!

Best Wingfoil spots on the Ile de Ré

The Ile de Ré also offers a diversity of spots, suitable for all levels and all disciplines. You can choose between wind-exposed beaches, sheltered bays, shallow lagoons, or deeper areas. There are foil spots for all tastes and desires on the Ile de Ré!

Finally, the Ile de Ré is a place steeped in history and charm, with its typical villages, fortifications, salt marshes and unspoilt nature. You can take advantage of your stay to discover the cultural and natural heritage of the island, as well as its gastronomic specialties.

What are some other popular water activities on the Ile de Ré?

The Ile de Ré is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts. In addition to foiling, you will be able to practice:

  • Kitesurfing: the island has several schools and spots famous for learning or improving kitesurfing. You can take advantage of the wind and waves to perform spectacular tricks or simply glide across the water.
  • Windsurfing: The Ile de Ré also offers ideal conditions for windsurfing, with varied bodies of water and winds suitable for all levels.

Spots for kitesurfing foil in the Ile de Ré

  • Wakeboarding: If you like thrills, you can try your hand at wakeboarding. We have a slight preference for wakefoiling but wakeboarding is nice too! To practice wakeboarding, you still need a boat to tow the person in the wakeboard.
  • Surfing: Surrounded by beaches, the Ile de Ré also has some beautiful surfing spots, especially on the north coast. You can try your hand at surfing in the waves or
    stand-up paddleboarding
    on the calmer waters.

The best foil spots on the Ile de Ré

If you are looking for wing foil spots on the Ile de Ré, you are spoilt for choice. But to make it easier for you, here are the three best foil spots on the Ile de Ré:

North Shore and South Shore Foil Spot

Spot 1: North Shore

The foiling spot on the North Shore beach is located at the entrance to the island. It is navigable mainly in north-westerly winds and becomes choppy with the entry of the thermal, perfect for the Down Wind! The spot is navigable all day long because there is always water, and the parking lot is at the foot of the spot, what could be more convenient?

If you are a kitesurfing enthusiast, this is the only spot on the Ile de Ré authorized for kitesurfing at any time, so you can enjoy yourself without any headaches.

Foiling on the Ile de Ré on the beach of Rivedoux Sud

Spot 2: South Shore

If the wind doesn’t allow you to get your foil out in Rivedoux Nord, you can go to Rivedoux Sud. It’s a great spot with a wind from Northeast to West which is ideal to enjoy a rather flat body of water with swell when there is a big intake. As for Rivedoux Nord, the spot of Rivedoux Sud is navigable all the time.

With these two spots you can foil whatever the conditions!

foiling on the Ile de Ré

Spot 3: La Couarde Nord

The beach of La Couarde Nord is a foiling spot located on the north coast of the Ile de Ré, at the level of the Goisil. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a flat body of water in a northwesterly wind.

Be careful, this spot is not accessible all the time. It is navigable only under the following conditions:

  • Tidal coefficient greater than 70
  • Set between 1h30 before and after high tide

Spot 4: Diamond head, the spot that blows your mind

Diamond Head, on the Ile de Ré, enjoys a mythical reputation among surfing enthusiasts due to its strategic location. Its exposure to the swell makes it a privileged place for surfers, wing foilers and windsurfers in search of optimal conditions.

Located in a great area, Diamond Head offers stunning views of the Whales Lighthouse. This proximity to one of the emblematic symbols of the island gives a special dimension to the experience on the water. Sailing while contemplating the lighthouse creates a unique atmosphere, enhancing the appeal of this spot.

Diamond Head thus becomes an emblematic place where the combination of conditions and the picturesque setting of the Whale Lighthouse offers an unforgettable experience. The optimal conditions and spectacular view make this spot a must for those looking for a memorable adventure on the Ile de Ré.

The spot works in a lot of orientation, but most of the time, the wind comes in from the west with some variations in the southwest and northwest. Summer thermals in the north can be very interesting.

The spot is obviously wave-oriented, south or southwest, it will be flatter but also more windy.

Wing's Lizay spot in the waves

Spot 5: The Lizay

Located some 200 m from the Petit Bec beach, the Lizay is the spot of excellence for surfing, so for wing when you want to jump high or simply surf. The wind enters it from the side, offering ideal conditions to deal with the swell.

It is not suitable for all levels. Beginners abstain.

the Petit Bec spot on the Ile de Ré is perfect for beginners

Spot 6: The Little Beak

Following on from the lizay, a few hundred metres further on, you will find the Petit Bec beach. An ideal spot for kitesurfing since it gives access to a lot of space to take off/land, it will also lend itself perfectly to wingfoil and surf sessions as well as windsurfing.

Spot 7: The Pergola

One of the best known is certainly the pergola, nicknamed the “pergo”, it will offer you magical surfing sessions at sunset.

Be careful, it is important to pay attention to the many rocks and underwater fences that serve to retain the sand.

Spot 8: The Centre Nautique Couardais: The ideal spot for the dockstart

Located in La Couarde-sur-Mer, the Centre Nautique Couardais is THE ideal spot to practice wingfoil dockstart. With its pontoons and access to the water regardless of the tide, riders can safely launch from a platform. In addition, the very flat body of water offers optimal conditions to work on your starting technique.

These 8 spots are suitable for foilers of all levels, who will be able to have fun in varied conditions. If you prefer surfing or SUP foiling, we recommend other spots that will be perfect for these activities such as the Couarde Sud, the Gros Jonc or the Grenettes.

Tips for foiling on the Ile de Ré

Equipment needed for foiling according to its discipline:

To practice foiling on the Ile de Ré, you will need equipment adapted to your discipline and your level. Here are some tips for choosing SROKA equipment for your discipline:

Precautions for foiling on the Ile de Ré

Foil is a very fun sport but it still requires caution and respect for safety rules. Here are some tips to practice foiling on the Ile de Ré with complete peace of mind:

1/ Check the weather and sailing conditions before leaving and choose a spot adapted to your level and discipline. It is also important to avoid areas that are too crowded or off-limits.

2/ Always wear protective equipment : helmet, foil impact vest, neoprene suit. Check that your equipment is in good condition and properly adjusted before you go into the water. Remember to always use a leash so you don’t lose your board or kite.

3/ Respect other water users : foilers, kitesurfers, windsurfers, surfers, swimmers… It is essential to keep a safe distance to avoid collisions. It is also important to remember to respect priorities and navigation rules.

4/ Finally, be careful and realistic about your abilities: don’t sail alone and stay close to the shore if you are not confident. You don’t have to go far to enjoy yourself, the open sea will be within your reach when you have perfected your skills.

How to plan an unforgettable foiling experience on the Ile de Ré?

Wing foil spots on the Ile de Ré

If you want to have a great foil experience on the Ile de Ré, here are some tips to plan your stay:

  • Choose the ideal period: the Ile de Ré can be visited all year round, but the best seasons for foiling are spring and autumn, when the winds are more regular and there are fewer tourists.
  • Book your accommodation: the Ile de Ré has a wide range of accommodation, from campsites to luxury hotels. You will be able to choose according to your budget and your desire. Remember to book in advance, especially in high season.

If you’re looking for something to do outdoors near Paris, paddle boarding is a great option. This activity, which consists of navigating on a board with the help of a paddle, will allow you to discover the rivers, canals, lakes and ponds of the Paris region in a completely different way. On top of that, paddle boarding is a great way to relax while getting some physical exercise.

But where to paddle near Paris? If you’re asking yourself this question, you’ve come to the right place. Discover in this article the best paddle spots near Paris, whether on the Seine, the Canal de l’Ourcq, the lakes and ponds of the Paris region or in the yacht clubs.

So, grab your board and paddle, and let’s explore the best paddle spots near Paris!

Is it possible to paddle board in Paris?

If you are a paddle lover in the Paris region, you have certainly asked yourself the question: where can I practice my favorite activity? The good news is that there are hundreds of miles of waterways where you can paddle safely. However, there are some restrictions to be aware of before you grab your board and get in the water.

The general and special police regulations, available on the website of Voies navigables de France (VNF) and sometimes on the websites of the prefectures, list these restrictions.

    • For the Seine, you must refer to the “Seine-Yonne route police regulations” (RPPi 2).
    • For the Marne, this is the “Marne route police special regulation” (RPPi 9).
    • For the Oise, you must consult the “special regulation of the Oise – Canal du Nord route police” (RPPi 3).

These documents contain a ‘water sports master plan’, which will let you know which stretches of the waterway are allowed or prohibited for ‘human powered water sports’, such as paddle boarding or canoeing.

You can paddle on the Seine in Paris, but there are a few rules to follow. You should stay away from transport boats and houseboats, as they can create waves that can throw you off balance. It is also recommended not to sail under bridges, as currents can be dangerous.

    • Navigation rules are also very important. You must respect other water users, such as cruise ships, houseboats, and pleasure boats. Avoid sailing too close to shores and bridges, as this can be dangerous.

    • Avoid sailing alone, especially if you’re a beginner. It is best to sail in a group or with professional supervision. Always check the weather conditions before leaving, and avoid sailing in rainy or windy weather.
    • If you fall into the water, try to retrieve your board and paddle and then get back on your board. If you can’t get back on your board, try moving closer to shore or asking other water users for help. If you see someone in difficulty, don’t hesitate to help them or call for help.

It is possible to paddle near Paris, whether on the Seine, the Canal de l’Ourcq, the lakes and ponds of the Paris region or in the yacht clubs.

If you are a beginner, do not hesitate to take lessons from a yacht club or a professional supervisor to learn the basics of paddle boarding in complete safety. And if you’re a regular skateboarder, take the opportunity to discover new spots and push your limits.

Finally, don’t forget to follow the safety instructions and navigation rules to practice this activity safely and with respect for other water users.

So, get your boards and paddles on!

Paddle boarding, or stand-up paddle (SUP), is a water sport that has been in vogue for several years all over the world. It consists of paddling upright on a board specially designed for this purpose. This discipline has grown in popularity in recent years thanks to its accessibility to all skill levels and its versatile nature, which can be practiced for leisure, fitness or competition, and on different bodies of water. Paddle boarding is also a great way to enjoy nature’s scenery while working on your balance and stamina. Popular destinations or local places, discover in this article, the best places to practice paddle boarding.

The different environments for paddle boarding

Paddle boarding can be practiced in different environments such as the sea, lakes, rivers and canals. Each of these environments offers a unique experience and different challenges for paddle boarders. It is important to choose the appropriate environment based on your level of experience and goals.

    Paddle boarding in the sea

The sea is the most popular environment for paddle boarding. The exciting nature of the seas offers breathtaking scenery – ranging from sandy beaches to cliffs and rock formations, larger waves and more challenging conditions for the more experienced. It’s also a good opportunity to cool off on hot summer days. Beginners can also enjoy the sea, but it is important to choose a place that is protected from waves and strong currents.

    Paddle boarding in a lake

The lakes are a great option for beginners and families with kids. Quieter and more peaceful, they offer a magnificent view of the surrounding landscapes. The lakes vary in size and depth, and can be chosen for relaxing in nature, for training sessions, hikes or even paddle competitions. Additional activities such as swimming, fishing and pleasure boating also make the lakes a great destination for holidays and leisure.

    Paddle boarding in the river

Rivers are another popular choice for paddle boarding, with faster and rougher waters, requiring some experience and knowledge of whitewater navigation. This is because rivers offer a more challenging and adventurous experience – a real added challenge for the more experienced looking to improve their skills and stamina. In addition, rivers are often equipped with boat ramps and other equipment, to facilitate access and paddle boarding.

    Paddle boarding on the canals

The canals are less common spots for paddle boarding, but provide an equally unique and tranquil experience surrounded by nature. The calm waters of the canals are ideal for beginners who want to paddle without facing harsh conditions, such as waves and strong currents.

In addition to their peaceful nature, canals are often located in urban areas, offering a different view of the city from the water. Paddle rides on the canals allow you to discover bridges, quays and historic buildings in a unique way.

    Paddle boarding in the river

Helpful resources to help you find the perfect venue

    • The Tourist Office is a great starting point for finding directions to the different paddle boarding destinations. They can direct you to the right bodies of water, providing maps of rivers, lakes and beaches where you can paddle safely. Tourist offices can also give you information about paddle schools, local guides, and equipment rental companies.
    • Paddle boarding blogs can also help you find a place to practice. These blogs often offer opinions and recommendations from other paddle boarders. They will be able to advise you on the best routes and places to practice according to the season, weather conditions and levels of experience, but also warn you about the bodies of water to avoid.
    • Recommendations from friends, family, or online users can also be helpful. If you know people who have paddled before, ask them for tips and recommendations on places they have frequented and enjoyed. They will provide you with a more objective opinion on the sailing conditions, the quality of the water or the equipment available.

Marseille is a city renowned for its beautiful beaches and ideal wind conditions for Wing Foil. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced skier, you will find many spots to enjoy your favorite activity. Discover in this article the 7 best Wing Foil spots in Marseille and its surroundings.

    Wingfoil to Marseille
How to prepare your wing for wing foil

La Point Rouge: Marseille’s iconic Wing Foil spot

Have you ever seen a wingfoil spot accessible by public transport? We do! The mythical spot of La Pointe Rouge is located in the heart of Marseille, in the 8th arrondissement. You can get there by taking bus 19 or metro 2. The launch is usually done on the right of the beach of La Pointe Rouge or under the restaurant “La Riviera”.

The prevailing wind on this spot is the Mistral (North-West). It’s also a very good spot with a westerly wind. When conditions are favourable, there are waves to surf the swell and chop to jump. This spot is to be avoided in easterly winds and in north-east and south-east winds for beginners. The swell and offshore wind are likely to take you out to sea.

Wing Foil in Marseille, La Pointe Rouge
Wing foil around Marseille in the Anse des Tamarises

Wing foil spot north of Marseille: Anse de Tamaris

This superb spot with south-west and south-east winds will take you on a journey. Whether you are a beginner or more experienced, it is a real pleasure to foil on these crystal clear waters. If the wind drops, you can always try your hand at the dockstart thanks to the four pontoons in the port, so it’s a lot of fun! Be careful, however, as this idyllic spot is very popular in summer.

    Wingfoil at Anse de Bonnieu

L’Anse de Bonnieu: a wingfoil spot for everyone

Whether you are experienced or not, this spot offers beautiful conditions for all riders. The northwest-facing bay offers a ton of possibilities, with winds from the northwest to the south. Other orientations are not recommended, especially for beginners since they are offshore winds. For the more experienced who like to foil in the waves, a magnificent swell forms if waves are forecast and the wind blows from the southeast. Be careful, in some places of the bay, the depth can become very low. Be preventative and protect your foil by being careful not to scrape the bottom of the water.

    Or Wingfoil to Marseille

Carro: the great Wing Foil spot for experienced skiers

Locatedless than half an hour from Marseille, the spot of Carro is a little paradise that will delight foil lovers. It is located to the west of the small Provençal village of Carro. Above all, it is an ideal wave spot in north-westerly winds. It is also possible to sail in westerly, south-westerly and southeasterly winds. This great wave spot is rather reserved for experienced sailors because, although it offers magnificent sailing conditions, the wind can change quickly and getting into the water is sometimes difficult. Last but not least, in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises, we advise you to wear slippers when sailing.

Or go wing foil to Marseille

La Ciotat: wingfoil in one of the most beautiful bays in the world

The Bay of La Ciotat, voted the most beautiful bay in the world in 2019, is an incredible Wingfoil spot. It is less than an hour’s drive from Marseille and offers splendid sessions thanks to a sandy bottom that makes the water turquoise. Launching from the beach is easy, and the winds are steady. The southwesterly wind is the best direction. You can also enjoy this spot in North, North-West or South-East winds if you like waves. The water is shallow, you have to walk a bit to make sure you have enough bottom. The more adventurous can go further afield to enjoy the swell and stunning views of the coast. The only problem is that in the summer it can be difficult to find a parking space.

La Coudoulière: the best wave spot in the region

This spot is a real delight for wave lovers ! It is one of the best in the area, with a strong swell that offers wonderful conditions for navigating the waves. It’s great in northwest winds, the waves rolling down the cliff are great for waveriding and jumping. In south-westerly winds, the waves are smaller and allow for freestyle sessions. However, this spot will be especially suitable for experienced riders. The launch is easy, it is done on the beach of La Coudoulière, after the port. Don’t forget to watch out for the dike and rocks in heavy conditions to avoid injury or damage to your equipment.

L’Almanarre: the body of water that works in all weathers

The spot of the bay of Almanarre, near Marseille, is very popular with lovers of Wing Foil, Kite surfing and Windsurfing. In westerly to northwesterly winds, the waves take over the bay and offer magnificent freeride sessions, jumps or simply to glide from wave to wave. The easterly wind, on the other hand, transforms the spot into a real mirror and offers perfect conditions for speed runs. Be careful, the easterly wind is completely offshore, you have to know how to go upwind. Launching is easy, but in summer specific areas are designated.

Montpellier and its surroundings are full of superb Wing Foil spots. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced sailor, you will find the wingfoil spot that will make you happy. Wing Foil has been a booming sport in recent years. It has even become a must-have for water sports! One of the big advantages of Wingfoil is its ease of use. Unlike kitesurfing or windfoil, wing foil is extremely easy to set up on the beach, to put in the water and to transport. It’s a sport accessible to all levels that doesn’t require big wind or wave conditions. Indeed, it is possible to sail in light winds, you can take off from 7-8 knots. Thus, in addition to optimizing low wind conditions, wingfoil offers you a wide choice of spots and opportunities to practice.

We have selected for you the 8 best wing foil spots in Montpellier and its surroundings.

The 8 best Wing Foil spots near Montpellier

    The beach of l’Espiguette

The Espiguette beach is without a doubt one of the best Wing Foil spots around Montpellier. Located just below the Port Camargue, the Espiguette beach stretches for no less than 10 km. With its long stretch of fine sand, it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in the region. It will be suitable for beginners as well as advanced. The wind is pretty steady. It is usually oriented South, South-West and North-West. There may be a few sandbanks further offshore, so make sure there is always enough water for your foil.
Like most beaches in the south of France, Espiguette beach is very crowded in summer. It can sometimes be difficult to find space. The advantage is that you don’t need a lot of space to set up your wingfoil equipment.

    Port Camargue – South Beach

The South Beach is probably the best Wingfoil spot around Montpellier in the Tramontane wind (North-West Wind). It is also a very famous spot for kitesurfing enthusiasts. The wind conditions are ideal all year round, making it a very popular playground. It is better to have an advanced level to ride on this spot. There are sometimes a lot of people in the water but it allows the skilful and expert foilers to really have fun !
The beach is relatively easy to access thanks to the parking lot nearby.
Good to know: in summer, swimming areas are set up and the car park becomes paid (from June to September).

    faire du wingfoil vers montpellier

    The Boucanet

Located 15 minutes from Montpellier, the Boucanet is one of the best wing foil spots in the area. It is an excellent spot in a westerly wind. It is also possible to sail there in southerly winds. Depending on the conditions, the Boucanet spot can shelter some waves. Enough to have fun in free surfing or surf foiling. Front fins like the 1350 High Aspect Lift are perfect for surf-foil or wing foil in small conditions, ideal for small, inconsistent summer waves . Most? The length of the beach is perfect for downwinding !
Be careful, however, if you want to sail in peace. Le Boucanet is a very touristy beach that attracts many holidaymakers in the summer.

faire du wing foil dans la région de Montpellier

    Grand Travers Beach

The Grand Travers beach in La Grande-Motte is the ideal spot to start wing foiling around Montpellier. The favorable winds on this beach are southerly, southeasterly and southwesterly winds. In south-easterly winds, the beach even turns into a superb wave spot, a great way to have fun surfing foil ! In summer, swimming areas are set up to demarcate swimmers, foilers and kitesurfers. It’s quite practical to learn wing foil in peace.

ou faire du wing foil à la Grande Motte vers Montpellier

    The beaches of Carnon

the beaches from Carnon to Montpellier are very good wing foil spots when the conditions are right. The favourable winds for foiling are those from the South and South-West. However, the winds can sometimes be very irregular. These are spots that are suitable for beginners as well as experienced foilers when the conditions are bigger. The beaches of Carnon are easy to access, there are many car parks nearby. Some beaches are forbidden to kitesurfing during the summer period, such as the spot of Roquilles. We therefore advise you to find out about the conditions of wing foil sailing from the locals before going there.

faire du wing foil à Carnon vers Montpellier

    Villeneuve-les-Maguelone

The spot of Villeneuve-les-Maguelone is one of the most beautiful wing foil and kite surfing spots in Montpellier. The beach stretches for about 8km and it is possible to sail there in all wind conditions. The most common directions are southwesterly and northwesterly winds. Be careful in onshore winds, be vigilant and do not sail alone. On this spot, it is better to know how to go upwind to foil safely. Access is somewhat less easy than for the previous spots. There are two possibilities. You can park in the car park (for a fee from May to September) and finish the route on foot. It is about a 15 min walk. Otherwise, a small train runs in the summer to go to the various beaches.

    The Pontant pond

The advantage of a pond is that it is possible to sail in almost all wind conditions. The best directions are southeasterly, southwesterly, and northwesterly winds. Northerly winds are not ideal for this pond. It’s the perfect spot to start wing foiling around Montpellier. Experienced and expert riders will also be able to find what they are looking for depending on the conditions. It is the meeting point for many foilers! There are many facebook groups where you can find out about the spots and exchange with other Wingfoil enthusiasts in the Montpellier region.

    The pond of Ingril

Located 15 minutes from Montpellier, the Ingril pond is the perfect place to learn. Indeed, the body of water is shallow, closed and not very choppy, all the conditions are met to learn wingfoil in complete safety. The prevailing wind is that of the North-West (Tramontana), only, as it is a pond, it can be ridden by winds from the West, North-East, East and South-West. It is even possible to get there in a south-easterly wind but you must remain vigilant because in these conditions, the wind pushes to the bottom of the pond. As the water level rises at the bottom of the pond, you quickly lose your footing, so you have to know how to go upwind if you choose to foil there in a south-easterly wind.
Be careful with the depth of the water. After a few days of tramontana, the water level drops and the foil risks hitting the bottom (algae and silt). This is why, for this spot, we advise you to equip yourself with a mast of 65cm or 80cm maximum.

If you are a beginner and don’t know where to start, do not hesitate to contact us or find our advice on choosing your wingfoi l pack.

Goulien: the westernmost wingfoil spot in Finistère

Located at the end of the world, in the town of Crozon, the beach of Goulien is a wing foil spot renowned. Easy to get to, it is one of the largest beaches in Crozon. The beach of Goulien benefits from north-west and south-west winds. On days when the wind comes more from the south, you can get closer to Kersiguénou beach or Kerloc’h beach. This way, you will be able to benefit from more stable wind conditions. On days when the conditions are right, the waves grow and the beach turns into a great surf and surf spot. Surf Foil. The waves can be big but it is a spot that remains relatively easy and accessible, even in big conditions.
Be careful, however, in summer you will have to share the spot with the many bathers who come to enjoy it. This is not a problem for the wing foil since the swimmers stay close to the edge.

Roscanvel, on the Crozon peninsula on the harbour side.

Located on the harbour side of the Crozon peninsula.
This spot is perfect for anyone who wants to learn wing foiling or sail on flat water.
Perfectly isolated from the big swell trains, this spot will allow you to progress or improve on the flat. Even with 35 knots of wind, the spot will remain flat in almost all conditions.

On this site, we have set up a SROKA school dedicated to wingfoiling as well as a SROKA test center, where you can try all the products available.
Whether you’re looking for an event or a turnkey experience, everything is designed to meet your needs.
    For more information, visit www.wingfoil-crozon.com.

La Laïta, the wingfoil spot on the edge of South Finistère

Located on the border between southern Finistère and Morbihan, the Laïta river is a wingfoil spot with multiple advantages. For flat fans, it is possible to wingfoil in the Laïta basin just behind. If you prefer waves, the beach of Guidel (in Morbihan) will make you happy. Finally, for those looking for more swell, just go a little further offshore. To get to this spot you can start from Le Pouldu on the parking lot of the Boulevard de la Laïta, or you can start from Guidel-Plage.
It is possible to foil, by all orientations. However, to avoid irregular winds, it is ideal to go there when the wind is from the southwest. Be careful though, in case of large coefficients the currents can be quite strong. Finally, we advise you to go there when the tide is high or almost high. Indeed, at low and mid-rising tide, there is not enough bottom to foil and the currents are rather numerous and strong.

Le Dossen and Les 3 Moutons: the two best wingfoil spots in North Finistère

Described as one of the best wave spots in North Finistère, Le Dossen in Santec is a great wingfoil spot for all those who are looking for great sensations. The wind is mostly north-west or south-west. This white sand beach welcomes, on days of great conditions, waves of up to 4 meters (off the spot).
In summer, the beach is divided into several areas that allow swimmers, as well as foilers and kitesurfers, to enjoy their activity in complete tranquility.

The 3 Moutons spot in Tréompan has its place in the top 5 of the best wingfoil spots in Finistère. The spot has become popular thanks to its small waves that make it a perfect spot for wingfoil beginners. With a north-westerly wind, it is a spot that brings together all the conditions to fully enjoy the sensations of the foil.
Good to know: the sea drops a lot at low tide. Don’t be afraid to walk with your gear if you want to get to the water before it comes back up.

Wingfoil in Finistère: The harbour of Brest

The harbour of Brest is an endless spot for wingfoil in Finistère. You won’t run out of space! It is a great wing foil spot for beginners as well as for the more experienced in case of bigger wind conditions. The nicest thing is to sail from the south, south-west wind. It is of course possible to wingfoil in other orientations but the wind will be more irregular.
There are many access points. For example, you can start from the Moulin Blanc beach in Brest. It is a large white sandy beach that has an easy access car park on its left. It should be noted, however, that in the summer the car park fills up very quickly and swimming areas are installed.
The slipway to Océanopolis is another very popular access point for wing foil enthusiasts. The launch is convenient and it will be easy for you to find a place to park next to it.
Finally, for those who are not afraid of stones, the beach of Kernisi in Plougastel is an excellent starting point for foiling throughout the bay of Brest. This is the favourite starting point of the Sroka team. It makes it easy to go in all directions. However, we do not recommend it when the wind blows from the north as it will be more difficult for you to leave the beach.

BONUS: Penfoul, the ideal spot for Surf Foil in North Finistère

The beach of Penfoul in Landunvez will delight lovers of surf foil. Already known as a great surf spot, the Penfoul spot has become over time one of the favorite spots of surf foilers. Benefiting from a north-westerly swell, Penfoul is suitable for beginners in foil surfing, however the beach also offers beautiful waves for the more seasoned when the conditions are favourable.

Finally, we wanted to make a pack that allows everyone to achieve their best performance. That’s why you can Customize your package by choosing your fin as well as the lengthof your mast and fuselage.

    Why use wingfoil straps

Wingfoil is a booming activity in recent years. Many people become addicted to this incredible gliding sensation. Are you one of those people and would you like to sail around La Rochelle? You’ve come to the right place. Discover a selection of the 5 best Wing Foil spots near La Rochelle.

    Wing foil in La Rochelle

La Rochelle is a destination with many assets. It is full of cultural, historical and seaside places. There’s something for everyone! This region is ideal for families, you can take beautiful walks along the coast, visit the Ile de Ré and the Ile d’Oléron, but also go to the famous Aquarium of La Rochelle, or eat in good and charming restaurants.

For lovers of board sports, La Rochelle and its surroundings are also home to some of the best Wing Foil spots. It is a destination where you can sail all year round thanks to its many spots with different orientations. The conditions are conducive to learning and progressing in wing. Whatever your level, you will find the ideal spot where you can enjoy yourself!

The 5 best Wing Foil spots near La Rochelle

    Châtelaillon beach

Located about 10km from La Rochelle, Châtelaillon plage is without a doubt one of the best wingfoil spots in the region. This family-friendly seaside resort of fine sand stretches for no less than 3km. Depending on the wind conditions, it is an ideal wing foil spot for both beginners and experienced skiers. The wind is usually side shore and hovers around 20-25 knots in summer. When it’s more powerful, the waves come in. Châtelaillon beach then becomes a great playground for those who like to have fun in the waves in wing or surf foil.

    The Lumberjack’s Bench

This huge stretch of white sand beach, with its clear and shallow water is the perfect spot for wing foil beginners . Indeed, when the wind is predominantly easterly, northerly and northeasterly, it will bring you back to the beach. However, don’t panic, it’s also a great spot for experienced foilers! It allows you to improve your skills but also to perform your best freestyle tricks. Also, if you want to sail further offshore in peace, the beach is a great starting point to get away from the shore and sail into the bay.

Best Wing Foil Spots near La Rochelle

    The island of Oléron

About an hour from La Rochelle, the island of Oléron has several excellent spots for wingfoil enthusiasts. In north-westerly winds, the beach of Seuilières is a must-see. Indeed, this spot in the open sea shelters shore break waves (waves at the edge) when the tide is high. Enough to have a lot of fun!

Then, if you want to foile further north of the island, there is the boating beach with its shallow waters.

Otherwise, a little further east you can go to the magnificent spot of La Gautrelle. A fine sandy beach that offers a magnificent view of Fort Boyard and the island of Aix.

This club offers Wingfoil lessons with professionals. It is located in the magnificent setting of the Anse de la Perroche which offers superb sailing conditions!

For practitioners who want to go wing foiling in a wilder environment, the Aytré spots are perfect. Indeed, the beaches are located in the heart of a preserved environment. These are places that are not very crowded outside of the summer period and on days of high conditions. In a natural setting, the beaches of Aytré are safe spots, they are exposed to south-west, west and sometimes north-east winds. At low tide, the sea goes down a lot. We therefore advise you to do your sessions at high tide so that you don’t have to walk too long to reach deep enough water.

    Rivedoux beach

At the gateway to the Ile de Ré, this is one of the best Wingfoil spots in La Rochelle ! The beaches of Rivedoux, especially the north beach, are very popular spots for wingfoil and kitesurfing lovers. Its success certainly comes from the fact that the bay is protected, there is little depth, no waves and the beach is easy to access. The winds are generally north/northwest. It is very easy to get there, the beaches have parking nearby. Still, it’s better to get there at high tide. Indeed, when the sea goes down, the oyster bed is revealed and this reduces the available navigation space.

    Best Corsican wingfoil spot

With its many idyllic landscapes, Corsica is a dream destination. It’s easy to see why it’s nicknamed the Island of Beauty. Indeed, it is full of outdoor activities, from the seaside to the mountains, there is no shortage of paradisiacal landscapes. It is also a particularly popular island for its many water sports spots. Corsica has among its coasts the best spots for Wing Foil and inflatable paddle boarding. Surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, there are many Wingfoil, paddle and kite spots.

Corsica: ideal conditions for Wing Foil and SUP

Santa Giulia, the best wing and paddle spot in Corsica

Another advantage of the Isle of Beauty? Its Mediterranean climate. The summer is hot and dry and the winter is mild and wet. Ideal conditions to enjoy the best Wing Foil and SUP spots in Corsica. Between June and September, temperatures vary between 21°C and 26°C. In addition, spring and autumn remain mild with temperatures between 12°C and 18°C. As for the winter period, temperatures do not drop below 9°C on average. It is therefore the dream climate for the practice of Wingfoil and SUP. On both sides of the island,  the heat is pleasant and the wind conditions are conducive to wing sessions.
As for the sea, you don’t need a wetsuit! Thanks to the water temperature of around 25°C in summer (more widely from May to November), it is ideal for paddle boarding or wingfoiling directly in your swimsuit.

Corsica also benefits from ideal wind conditions. For the wing, many spots are well exposed and allow you to have interesting sessions. As for paddle lovers, there are also more sheltered corners to fully enjoy the beauty of the landscapes.
The advantage of the Isle of Beauty is that, no matter what time of year it is, you will find a place where the conditions are good for practicing Stand Up Paddle, the Wingfoil or the Kitesurfing.

1- The best Wingfoil spots in Corsica

BONIFACIO : The Mecca of board sports in France (South)

The Bonifacio area is widely known for its exceptional wind conditions, the beauty of its landscapes and its crystal clear water lagoons where the wind rushes in. Like all of southern Corsica, it benefits from significant exposure to the prevailing winds. They make Bonifacio a magical area for wingfoil.
Indeed, the Bonifacio area is ideal for Wingfoil. There are more than 190 wind days, force 4 or higher, per year. It is one of the windiest places in Europe. The prevailing winds are West/Southwest and East/Northeast.

best Wing foil and SUP spot near Bonifacio, corsica

La Tonnara, located west of Bonifiacio, is a very famous kitesurfing spot. It’s a real pleasure to sail there in a Wingfoil. Indeed, the spot offers incredible wind conditions. Depending on the conditions, it can be perfect for wingfoil beginners, or it can be used for more experienced wingfoilers to have a good time. Considered one of the best Wing Foil spots in Corsica, La Tonnara gives access to the Gulf of Ventilègne. A great spot in deep water that benefits from steady winds.

15 minutes north-east of Bonifacio, we find the beach of Balistra, a magnificent wild spot. The water is flat but the westerly wind can sometimes be strong and offshore. In these conditions, this wingfoil spot is rather recommended for experienced skiers. However, there is a sort of very shallow pond, just behind the beach, that allows beginners to wingfoilate safely.

The spot in the Gulf of Figari is a wide bay, safe and easy to access. It is a perfect spot for beginners and intermediates in wing foil. It is also suitable for experienced skiers who can get out of the bay to benefit from a stronger wind and more space.

Finally, in the vicinity of Bonifacio, there is the famous lagoon of Piantarella. With its white sand beach and shallow waters, it is a very famous wingfoil spot. The westerly wind rushing into the Strait of Bonifacio creates superb sailing conditions for the Wing Foil. Be careful, however, in the middle of the summer season the lagoon quickly becomes overcrowded.

    Wingfoil Equipment Buying Guide

Located in the east of Corsica, a little higher than Bonifacio, the beach of Santa Giulia which borders Porto-Vecchio is one of the best Wing Foil and SUP spots in Corsica. The beach is characterized by its translucent, flat and very shallow water. With a north-easterly wind most of the time, this beach will be a paradise for wingfoil beginners. Nevertheless, it is a beach that fills up well in summer, it can quickly become complicated to find the space on the beach to set up your equipment.

That’s why the best option is to go to the Santa Giulia Yacht Club. The yacht club offers lessons, courses and rental of Wingfoil, Paddle, Windsurf and kayak at affordable prices. There is something for all tastes and all ages! Their team of enthusiasts and professionals is here to make you enjoy these water sports to the fullest.

There are even giant paddle boards to take the whole family (or friends) for a ride in this little corner of paradise!

AJACCIO : Ricanto and Capo di feno ( South-West )

Ricanto Beach is a long white sand beach located in the bay of Ajaccio. The wind conditions are ideal, it is the start of beautiful wing sessions throughout the gulf. Perfect for an afternoon with the family, the beach is easy to access and also has a supervised swimming area. It’s a real plus to go wingfoil in peace.

best Wing foil and stand up paddle spots in Corsica

For those who want to wingfoil in the waves, the beach of Capo di Feno offers great sensations when the conditions are right. Indeed, when the westerly wind blows, the beach turns into a great surf spot. These are perfect conditions for great Wing Foil sessions in the waves, or even Surf Foil for the more experienced.

In addition, when the conditions are calm, the Corsican beach of Capo Di Feno is an excellent spot for paddle boarding with the family. Its magnificent landscapes promise you superb rides, whether on the water or on land.

    CALVI ( North-West )

    GHISONACCIA ( East )

The Gulf of Calvi is perfect for wingfoilers who love freestyle. The winds are sometimes strong and depending on the conditions, the beach will delight fans of Wingfoil waves. Like all beaches in Corsica, in light wind conditions, the turquoise water of Calvi beach will also delight those who wish to paddle boarding. Its little +? The beautiful view of the city of Calvi

As for those who wish to discover the East of Corsica, you can go Wingfoil on the long beach of Ghisonaccia. The beach stretches for several kilometers and is divided into numerous beaches. Depending on the beach, the characteristics are different: supervised swimming, beach equipment and activities, showers, pets allowed, restaurants. All you have to do is choose what interests you!

2 – The best Stand Up Paddle spots in Corsica

Corsica and its many paradisiacal landscapes are full of superb SUP spots, each one as beautiful as the next. However, we have chosen two paddle spots that stand out from the rest: Palombaggia beach and Piantarella lagoon.

It was voted the most beautiful beach in France in 2019 and we quickly understand why! Its turquoise and calm waters will offer you a total change of scenery. With its idyllic landscape, this paddle spot is a little paradise on earth.

    The lagoon of La Piantarella

Near Bonifacio, the Piantarella lagoon promises you a breathtaking SUP session. The conditions are unique, the water is translucent, the sand is white and the scenery is splendid. Located in the south of Finistère (29), these islets with white sandy beaches, in the middle of translucent waters, are a real haven of peace. Enough to imagine yourself in a tropical destination, an hour by boat from the Finistère coast. Louis-Arnaud and Marine, our ambassadors, captured some images of their day of sailing, which definitely make us dream. We’ll let you admire the paradisiacal landscapes of Brittany in this video.

Wherever you go in Brittany, you will always find a way to practice Stand-Up Paddle, Wingfoil, Foil or Kitesurfing. The area is full of incredible playgrounds, including some heavenly spots . The biggest advantage is that all year round, you will always find conditions to practice a board sport. And if they’re not there, you’ll almost always find something to foil in!

The foil is similar to an underwater plane that will create a lifting force, thanks to the speed generated. If you want to know more about how a foil works, head over to this article. No more crowded waves, the foil will allow you to fly on the water and surf the swell, far from the world.

To fly over the swell in a Wing Foil in the sun when it’s grey at home, Fuerteventura will be the perfect destination. This island in the Canary Islands (nicknamed the Hawaii of the Atlantic) is the perfect combination of turquoise waters, heat and wind. The desert landscapes, the dunes as far as the eye can see, the breathtaking beaches, the small fishing villages, provide a real feeling of change of scenery. Lulled by the wind and waves, you can sail in a Wing Foil in a mild climate, all year round. Paradise, without the need to cross the Atlantic.

At first glance, this destination seems to welcome mass tourism, but the north of the island has been able to protect itself from it. You will discover traditional and authentic villages, where it is good to stroll after your session. There are unspoilt beaches, far from seaside resorts, but also lunar and volcanic landscapes. Nature is so diverse, we assure you a total feeling of escape.

Fuerteventura: favourable conditions for Wing Foil

The island of Fuerteventura is a good place to live because of the mild climate, with omnipresent sunshine and the breath of the trade winds coming from the north-east of the Canary Islands. All the conditions are therefore met for board sports. The wind blows all year round and the temperatures are pleasant, both summer and winter. These range from 22°C to 31°C in air and from 18°C to 23°C in water. One of our favourite playgrounds for Wing Foil, Surf Foil or Kitesurfing !

In addition, it is an accessible destination, both in terms of the duration and the cost of the trip. You will find direct flights from the mainland at an affordable price depending on the season. Once there, the cost of living is relatively cheap.

No need to go to the other side of the planet to practice SUP Foil in the sun, France has its little Eldorados. Corsica is one of them. This island will offer you a diversity of natural landscapes, with paradisiacal beaches, not to mention the climate and the temperature of the water: everything is there to make your stay unforgettable. It’s easy to see why Corsica is nicknamed “ the island of beauty “.

Indeed, the mountains and cliffs overlook the white sand beaches as well as the turquoise and translucent water. The island has a strong cultural history, a rich heritage and many pretty typical villages. As soon as you arrive, you feel a real change of scenery and the impression of being at the end of the world, only a few hours from the continent.

An island paradise, suitable for SUP Foil

The advantage of Corsica is that you will enjoy pleasant temperatures all year round thanks to the Mediterranean climate. The sun is present whatever the period, with an exceptional rate of sunshine from April to October. Be aware that in the summer, prices and tourist flow increase considerably. The ideal is therefore to go there outside the summer season. For swimming, the water temperature is pleasant between June and October.

To get to Corsica, there are two solutions: the plane (the fastest) or the ferry. The plane will allow you to arrive directly in Ajaccio or Bonifacio, with regular lines from many French cities. As for the boat, you will find daily crossings from Marseille, Toulon and Nice, to Ajaccio.

Corsica offers a multitude of possibilities for board sports. We tested SUP Foil in the South of Corsica, and we would like to share with you our favorite beaches to sail. So don’t miss our practical tips below, in order to practice SUP Foiling in places that are as unmissable as they are incredible.

Singular landscapes, sunny and windy spots, Lanzarote is for us the perfect destination to have fun in Wing Foil.

Located in the archipelago of the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa,
    Lanzarote
will satisfy all your desires for a change of scenery and escape. Indeed, this Spanish island has been able to protect itself from the mass tourism present in its neighbours (such as Tenerife and Fuerteventura), and to preserve its rich and natural environment. You will find very contrasting scenery, each more beautiful than the last with spring temperatures in winter.

First of all, the island is full of volcanic landscapes, inherited from its many volcanoes. You will be able to admire this spectacle of nature in the heart of the Timanfaya National Park (to name but one). These lunar landscapes make the green corners populated by cacti stand out more in winter. It is one of the places on Earth where one can listen to complete silence, without any noise from nature. Which is very rare! You can also enjoy the fine sandy beaches and turquoise water, in which it is possible to swim all year round.

A year-round sun destination, perfect for Wing Foil

The weather is also what makes Lanzarote so charming. The mild temperatures (on average 23°C) throughout the year are due to the (omnipresent) sun, combined with the Azores High and its trade winds which soften the temperatures. The Canary Islands are considered to be the Hawaii of Europe.

To benefit from the sun and the most pleasant temperatures, we recommend the period from May to June, but to avoid the high crowds, choose the month of March or September. Nevertheless, the island remains ideal for a break in the sun at any time of the year. Another advantage of Lanzarote is that it is easily accessible from the mainland, with very affordable flights and temperatures in December that can reach up to 23 degrees. The water temperature in winter is 20°C.

The number of windy days is high due to the trade winds (north-easterly wind) that sweep across the island. At SROKA Company, Lanzarote is for us THE destination that will offer you perfect conditions to practice Wing Foil, at a lower cost in the middle of winter. As the number of participants is limited, the atmosphere in the water is really very nice.

Foil surfing is too magical. There is no doubt that Surf Foil will be one of the sports of the future. Innovating, surpassing oneself, optimising conditions are the adjectives that reflect the practice of Surf Foil. We are only at the beginning of the sport and everything is still possible, you have to surpass yourself and learn a new support again and finally, Surffoiler allows you to surf whatever the conditions. Even if the conditions don’t look great, you’ll have a lot of fun on the water.

These images were shot on the Canary archipelago in Lanzarote. As you can see, you don’t have to have big conditions to have fun. All you need is a few small, soft waves that can be found all over the world

The Youtuber Gregsway and his famous van, Henri the bus, came to visit us in our SROKA warehouse on the occasion of the presentation of our new range of stand up paddles. It was a great opportunity for him and his girlfriend to discover beautiful Brittany by paddle boarding on their brand new Malibu Sroka SUP.

Inflatable SUPs have so many positives for an adventurer traveling in a van: easy to carry, lightweight, takes up little space when deflated, easy to store, and inflatable in any magical corner you’d like to explore. What’s the best way to explore landscapes other than the road:)

Accessible to all, stand up paddle boarding can be used to discover wild coves on walks or in a more muscular way, with big paddle strokes for a cardio exercise, you will never run out of ideas to use it.

The uniquely designed SROKA SUP range is built from fusion technology to maximise lightness and stiffness. For more information on our range of stand up paddle boards, click here
